Are Fire Works Necessary?

2014-12-29 05:12

Together with loud bangs, our skies above us will explode into different colours and patterns to usher in the New Year. While the magnificent display of firecrackers may be enjoyable for some, it is villainous and hellish for others and especially for the animals, birds and little children.

On behalf of conscious driven individuals and their pets that are terrorized by hours of loud fireworks, I would like to see more law enforcement on the sale and setting off fireworks this coming New Year festivities. Frightening innocent family pets, birds, animals, wildlife and little children is truly unacceptable and an injustice.

The dreadfully loud fireworks are really becoming a problem and a nuisance. In the past few years, many traumatised animals have had to be put down due to wounds and injuries sustained from nonsensically loud fireworks.

Animals cannot recognise the terrifying loud explosions. Fireworks creates confusion in animals and this leads to anxiety and fear. In an effort to escape the loud and petrifying noises, many animals run away from their homes resulting in injuries and even death.

Researchers at Acadia University, Nova Scotia, found that after a loud bang, most birds fly away in fright, and the nesting mothers of the flock sometimes cannot find their own nest upon return, endangering the well-being of nestlings.

According to an article, fireworks can also affect farm animals. Dr. Ian Duncan, a University of Guelph ethologist, has demonstrated that laying hens show extremely low egg production the day after fireworks and the eggs are often malformed as well.

Show your concern for this great rainbow nation of ours, not with fireworks and rowdy behaviour but by resolving to improve it in a progressive way. Setting off fireworks is regressive and a pure waste of money.

Spend the money you have set aside for fireworks on paying the school fees or buying stationery or uniforms for an underprivileged child, or get a group together to clean up a park or plant some indigenous trees. Don’t destroy the earth by polluting with noise and other pollutants.

Let’s change our attitude and say no to FIRE WORKS.
