Baby steps against Zuma

2016-03-31 21:27

Once upon a time there was a king. The king reigned over the people without considering their needs. The king did as he pleased and had no conscience. Soon there was chaos all over! The people lost hope! The king kept on doing as he pleased. It seemed like nothing could stop him. Where would it all end?

Fortunately there was a fairy godmother, who kept pursuing the king in an attempt to make him pay for all that he has done wrong. This fairy godmother was fearless. She didn’t give up. Like David took on Goliath, this fairy godmother took on the king. Would she win? It all depended on the laws of the country.

After much deliberation, those who had to apply the law ruled against the king. The people at last had reason to celebrate! What a country! The fairy tale had a happy ending. There would be peace and order once again...No more chaos! No more tyranny...

Is this how it’s going to be for South Africa? I really hope so! Now that the Constitutional Court has ruled against the President, everything seems so much better. South Africans have hope again...

The question is where to from here? What’s next for our President and what’s next for South Africa?

According to political analysts the President might still be around for a while. That in itself constitutes a political challenge for the opposition. However there is something else that might constitute an even greater challenge. Who is going to be the next President? Will he govern in a fair and responsible manner? The question remains. Only the future will tell...

I don’t want to seem like a party pooper, but we have to be realistic. Yes we have a lot to be thankful for. Zuma has to pay! The law has spoken. It is something to celebrate, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Whoever takes over, has a tall order to fulfil. Zuma has created havoc! The country is in shambles. The people are broken. The legacy left by former President Mandela has disappeared. There’s no rainbow nation anymore. The economy has challenges of its own. So what now?

I believe the answer lies in taking one step at a time. We have to pick up the pieces one at a time. Life can be good again. The rainbow is still there. It was confirmed by today’s ruling of the Constitutional Court.

Yes we have immense challenges ahead of us. The question is whether we will dedicate ourselves to rebuilding this country. It begins by placing our votes in favour of competent and responsible people, because the next few years will determine where we will be heading. By placing the right people at the top, we might have a chance.

As I said whoever follows in Zuma’s footsteps has a tall order to fulfil. However for today we can celebrate! Tomorrow we have to start taking baby steps...
