Before Zuma Mbeki was said to be a problem

2015-02-14 08:09

You know before Zuma, Mbeki was said to be a problem.

The SACP, COSATU, ANC even the Media was in agreement. Opposition DA and others wanted Mbeki out, calling for his removal, putting motions of no confidence on the table.

The Arms Deal, Aids and State Institution were said to be under threat. All these were used to justify that Mbeki is a problem, some even called for Mbeki to be taken to the International Criminal Court, saying he has committed crimes against humanity.

White people hated his frankness on race and inequality, they said like Zelda did to Zuma that Thabo Mbeki made them feel unwelcomed

Universities such as Harvard investigated him, and locally our UCT stripped him of its recognitions it gave him.

So Mbeki was removed - not for these reasons but for ANC political infighting.

President Zuma could be the problem, I get that.

But let's not get the quick amnesia of forgetting that even our former President was once said to be a problem. The scandals and mistakes of his administration were used against him.

Also the scandals and mistakes of Zuma's are made against him too: Nkandla, Gupta.. you know them.

The truth of the matter is, even if we change President Zuma and put someone else in the hot seat, tomorrow the opposition will still find mud to sling on them. They will throw it on their faces and again we will be here, saying our problem is whoever is a president then.

The idea that if you remove President Zuma all will be good is wrong and short sighted. The Vavi, the Blade in COSATU promised us heaven when Mbeki left.

But where is that heaven?

If we remove Zuma today, can you honestly say tomorrow will be good ?

My love for ANC and support for Zuma prevents me from being objective like your hate for the current ANC leadership does to you.

I am always aware of my bias and I wish people when ever they discuss issues of national importance like this they must be mindful of the positions we take politically.

I will defend both Mbeki and Zuma knowing their mistakes, not denying them or belittling the other one's mistake to project the other as good.

My point remains, our leadership messes up and those who hold hegemony over mass media and public opinions get in and make things worse by always focusing on one man: they focused on Mbeki, now they are focusing on Zuma.

Mbeki got the same Media treatment as Zuma obviously for different reasons (not Nkandla).

I am not of support that the ANC must remove its president because popular views say so when those who hold hegemony over the circulation of information and influencing views never loved us.

And the ANC will never have had presidents if we removed them over time as some people in our society now thinks we should do.
