Deluded South Africans

2016-06-30 11:25

A war is raging within South Africa and it is doing so within the minds of every South Africa. If you are in doubt look to the person you see on the streets  everyday and their eyes of uncertainty watering with desperation of a better tomorrow. We are a nauseated people and that feeling wont go away until we resolve the issues that exist in this country. But truth to South Africans is better off swept underneath the carpet yet we ask why we sneeze hatred yet our very own actions mirror a people who drink poison in the hope of killing the other. Those eager on a temporary fix will drug the masses with absolute truth nothing shy of the not so pastoral  Andre Olivier. The truth is not found through other people rather through you as an individual.

The deluded South African will believe we are doing just fine but going through a rough patch, the economy will recover and the strikes will die down after the elections. Once a country of possibilities has shrunk to a country of failed responsibilities.  It is ridiculous to say that only a particular people are to blame for the state of our society. If we are all active participants despite the obvious structural challenges we face day to day. If you speak of this regardless of your racial group you will be shunned. Then an existence outside the realms of your people and the cultural other that you have been poorly taught about deliberately so, Sometimes by your parents, sometimes by your religious leader and even an education system not designed for South Africans.

In South Africa things do not stay the same from all fronts. They become worse. We have just developed coping mechanisms for ourselves which is to blame the person that is not you. "Its the government" yet the people govern and their choices of leaders is of their own doing. "Its corruption" yet you have voted for the same Councillor who cannot quite get the time to fix a road for ten years or install basic services to a community. "Its racism"  Yet not for one moment have you ever acknowledged Xenophobia, Homophobia and Rape in the same regard. "Its unfair' Yet all your employees are white because they work better than blacks. "Its Apartheid" yet the people we see in convoys do not resemble the narrative. It is always the other person with South Africans but never them.

Are you not tired of the hypocrisy of your existence? or does the carnage you see everyday satisfy you? Your answer will fall short for the truth. Which is yourself. You have built walls high enough to protect you from criminals whose mothers raise your children. You have bought enough material things for yourself yet not once have you bought someone the possibility of a better future. The problem with this country is not some inexplicable conspiracy rather we would rather be comfortable then accept the possibility of growth.  It has been building up to this for a long time and going back is no relief, staying here is no better to think about the future means we have to address the now.
