EGYPT: ELECTIONS NOT FAIR

2014-05-28 11:14

The Egyptian elections cannot be called free and fair as most of Egypt’s capable and seasoned politicians are in prison.

General Abdel Fattah el-Sissi and his regime have used brutal force against their opponents and have prosecuted and imprisoned politicians, activists and conscious driven individuals that are against the military linked rule.

The political environment imposed on the Egyptians by the regime makes it difficult for any fair, rational and balanced individual to win.

According to an article, Hamdeen Sabahi, the only opponent to the former Army Chief, Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, believes that the election contest is not a fair fight, and his campaign faced many problems.

In the 2012 presidential elections there were about 13 candidates and in this elections there are only two contestants. What happened to the other candidates? It’s unbelievably depressing that after all the activism for change and the greater good carried out by the many ordinary men and women and individuals like Khaled Said, the only choice for the president is a military autocrat.

What kind of leadership can we expect from el-Sissi when he used un-democratic means to depose the democratically elected President Mohammed Mursi.

Mursi, Egypt’s first freely elected president, was removed from power in a violent military coup.

The election is a smokescreen and an effort to give legitimacy to the current military regime ruling the country.
