Eishkom Has SA going 'Eish' - JZ, answers are needed!

2014-12-09 16:05

Eishkom (Synonym for Eskom for those who don’t know) has recently sent the country into a state of frustration with their power constant power cuts. Yes, we can call them names and insist that they answer to the public outcry but one area we are overlooking is that we have the same situation with our President. The Honourable (Let’s observe protocol) President has become a regular absentee in parliament and he hides behind the fact that it has become unruly. This is kind of what the lovely people at Eishkom are doing. They are simply refusing to tell us the truth and instead hide behind mediocre and mostly inexcusable excuses. This is purely just bad leadership which we should not tolerate in this beautiful land of ours.

Now, when it comes to leadership, we all have an opinion on what it means to be a leader and what a good leader should do. Some, if not most of these qualities are not visible in our current leadership and we need to talk about this problem. A leader of a nation is elected to be able to address issues that plague civil society as well as give the country direction. Like any successful company, the CEO cannot simply say that his employees are unruly and thus he will go into hiding until it blows over. The CEO is the one person who should be looking to listen to the grievances of his constituents and give the constituents a way forward.

What I am saying is that the president of the republic needs to stand up and address the issues that we face. Eishkom should be made to answer to what has happened and the president needs to assist the public in doing that and determine whether we have competent people leading the organisation. Secondly, many people in your (Mr. President) party are being exposed for having lied about their academic records. Why have we not heard a statement from the leader of the country? We need to ensure that there is at least transparency in who we have leading public organisations and whether or not they qualify for the job.

The ANC has capable candidates for many of these posts but are not placed there for reasons only the president and his people know. The situation with Eskom is going to cripple our economy because these outages are affecting everyone in this country. A simple fridge being switched off can easily up the spending of a family and that alone could have complications.

As a country we are calling on you Mr. President to be the president we elected you to be. The country is becoming rather impatient with the non-existent governance in this country. Should the president run away from burning issues, so will the other organs of state follow suit. Leaders in this country should answer the people and it is the job of the people to question our leaders in government over what happens in this country.
