Everyone Has an Opportunity to Start A Movement!

It has become a buzzword to say that we live in a very dynamic environment, but anyway a buzzword that dominates our lives. Constant and rapid flux, much of it unpredictable, dictates that only the most adaptable organisations survive, let alone thrive.

The reason why the glorious anticipation of the 100 years of existence of the African National Congress which is popularly known as the ANC had little impact and lacked gravitas is because it is no longer needed. The reality has settled among those who take deep reflections. The world has shifted - there has been is a psychological shift in people's attitudes, tastes, ways of thinking and behaving.

Movements like the ANC have no substantive meaning at all because in today's world people define their own lives and set out their own personal mission statements that inspire them and gives them a sense of purpose. Before people had a sense of purpose by belonging to national movements of every kind such as Nazi Party when it was in its great popularity. Today every person has the opportunity to start a movement, you don't need some old archaic slow thinking movement to define yourself.

Of course we still have remnants of the old times among us as we see where people attend or join liberation movements and make them religion and speak about "our leaders" more than they can speak of themselves. But the numbers are waning and dwindling fast. Organizations or movements of these nature are facing what Chinua Achebe calls things fall apart, the centre cannot hold in his novel Things Fall Apart. Chinua Achebe was looking at the dawning of a new era and looking at how old natures, old traditions and old cultures that people were still clinging on. The result was that with these waves of change and the holding on of old traditions and old cultures Achebe saw a bust, people's lives were falling apart and the centre not longer holding. Achebe was telling a practical story suggesting the notion of the fact that all cultures, old traditions and customs evolve - there is no culture or tradition that is static.

People need fresh perspectives that are centred on the satisfaction of the self and no longer the movements. That is why the current ANC  to the one in history where people pledged their allegiance and their lives to the movement. but now we see leaders no longer interested in preserving the moment - but preserving and holding on to their interests and those of their extended families. But the myth of serving the people is continued - not out of substance and commitment to the course but because it make these people to continue indulging their personal interests. If you want the example of what is spoken here just look at the level of grim poverty and unemployment this country is swimming in and yet you have politicians driving latest expensive cars and wasting government money intended for poverty eradication.

Why there is little impact after the ANC movement that is dedicated to liberation taken power for close to 20 years? Why do you have such suffering, such poverty, and such unemployment - where went all the talk and the great documents written about helping "the masses of our people went"? Who is fooling who?
