Fill Up Our Ambitions: Why #FillUpOrlandoStadium by @CassperNyovest is a Generational Dream

2016-07-18 05:48

I'm a fan of dreams. Perhaps this is because (like with cassper nyovest) dreams have been and still are my only refuge where my mind can comfortably settle in absolute leisure and be cushioned by all sort of pleasant fantasies when my present situation and plight is in the gutter. It is only then I realise(d) the power of dreams. My Dreams have rescued me from lows of near depression that had me gutted to bottom sag curves not anyone can comprehend. This is why I respect my dreams, it is because I know that although they can be a mental and emotional refuge for a moment, they often serve as a crystal ball of potential that lies in a human mind. They tend to shape and funnel us into what lies ahead if enough effort is employed. they are a compass, a map and a destiny at the same time.

Last week we saw Cassper Nyovest announcing his #FillupOrlandoStadium campaign and most of us were filled up with excitement for yet another milestones and another record-breaking event in the horizon. A few were were worried about possibilities of failure, some felt this was too ambitious, but all this wasn't new. We had been here before and like back then, fear was crushed and dreams moulded into beautiful reality.

Now the question then begs, what does Cassper Nyovest's dream have to do with me, with you or us as a generation? Some will even dive into a simple conclusion of monetary benefits, profits and all sorts of figures than what really promises to come out of this. Some will view this in a vacuum by simply ignoring the glaring inspiration Cassper Nyovest is to his peers and the youth in general.

First of all Cassper comes from a typical poor family black background that most of us hail from. Secondly, his dream emanates from another relatively smaller dream which he worked on tirelessly to see it realize. This shows just how each dream gives and paves a way to a bigger one and how dedication can make it happen. Another is that Cassper has established himself as a ground-breaker who takes all kinds of risks to break all kinds of barriers of a formwork of fear, which have seen a lot of young people deter and quit as caterpillars to butterflies because of this fear which our society has entrenched and instilled into us for as long as we can remember.

For him to achieve the biggest crowd in the history of local events with the 20 000 crowd at the dome to take another risk of intending to fill up Orlando Stadium with 40 000 people best defines the power of ambition in a young black South African.

Today, we have few role models and Cassper is an inspiration to us. His dreams continue to fuel our own ambitions. His vision continues to plaster and cement onto our own layers of dilapidated towers. There's a lot we are learning and are continuing to take from him. May his Orlando stadium vision works and may his dream continue to be a light that shines for a lot of blacks in the dark.
