Gareth Cliff has something in common with Steve Hofmeyr

2014-11-03 19:01

The last two weeks were very sad for South Africa. In a Space of just 10 days we lost 5 Sport people who were stars in their respective fields.

An Olympic Gold and Silver medalist Mulaudzi paved the way, Senzo Meyiwa followed, Phindile Mulaudzi followed. And just as the nation was burring them saturday, Shaka Ngcobo passed away with former Springbok player Tinus Linee also leaving on a Monday.

Boxing, soccer, athletics and now rugby lost people who contributed and some who were still contributing to the development of their respective sporting codes.

The President of the Republic, Jacob Nxamalala, his Gedleyihlekisa Zuma deemed it fit to honour Mulaudzi and Meyiwa with provincial funerals.

Social Media went into a buzz, as always, with complaints because that is what South Africans do. They complain and start hashtags on Twitter and comment on News articles about how upset they are; it gives them life!!

Why is Senzo and Mulaudzi given a provincial funerals ?

Why is Phindile not given one ?

Answer is simple really…

Senzo was a Captain of our National Team Bafana Bafana. President Zuma did not give him a provincial funeral because he played for Pirates but because he was a leader of a team which formed part of this country’s identity.

In his few games as a Captain and a Goal keeper of Bafana Bafana he excelled, and gave hope to a nation that was hopeless about its national team. He kept a clean slate, and now people believe Bafana will qualify for Afcon, this happened with Senzo as a Captain of the “national” team.

Moreover, Senzo played before for our junior national teams of which he evidently excelled as he progressed to play for the senior team.

He deserved the Provincial funeral for inspiring confidence and contributed further to social cohesion which sport sorts to achieve.

Same could be said about Mulaudzi, he represented our country on international arenas and flew our national flag and made people of the world sit and listen to our national anthem. Nelson Mandela called him and thanked him for that.

Phindile Mwelase was just starting, sadly she passed away because of her love for boxing. she had only boxed in 6 professional fights, and lost in all of them. It would rather be emotional to grant her an a provincial funeral. She was not there yet.

And on the same day of the funeral Gareth his Zidleleness Cliff asks “Who paid for the funeral ?”

He was not asking because he didn't not know, but he was asking objecting to Senzo getting a funeral of that status. He went on to compared Senzo with Messi, again lessoning Senzo’s talent to that of Messi.

Thankfully, Twitter and i must say Black Twitter put him in his place as a result he wrote a blog at 00:30 midnight posted it and told us that he wont apologise.

Dear Gareth Cliff

You owe us no apology for you owe it to yourself for being ignorant.

Many people got provincial funerals before and the state paid for the costs. All persons from Academics, Politicians, Musicians and even Television presenters have in the past been given official funerals.

All these people got such because they excelled in their fields and contributed to the country’s national identity in one way or the other.

National Party leaders, DA liberals, ANC antiapartheid activists have gotten this honours. No one ever asked “Who paid” because we knew they deserved it even if we did not like some of them.

You say Senzo’s was unlike others “ the funeral was too big” you say.

duh!

It was bound to be big, a provincial funeral of an Academic from University of Western Cape or an old ANC woman who fought against National Party many years ago wont be similar to that of a soccer player. The other two will be small, the other will be bigger for obvious reasons.

You object to him getting a provincial funeral because he is no Messi, you must be reminded that Messi is not a South African and laws from Argentina dont apply here. Comparing the two further shows your ignorance.

You and Steve Hofmeyr have something in common. Your careers are sustained by creating controversy. Ignorantly, you say things and later say you wont apologise.

Well, Steve Hofmeyr says racists things and does not apologise because he does not think they’re racist.

You also say ignorant things and say you wont apologise because you dont know you are being ignorant. Like you never apologised for saying “Good riddance” when former Minister of Health Manto Msimang died.

Let me again leave you with these few tweets

@GarethCliff: Who's paying for this massive funeral for #SenzoMeyiwa ?

Definitely not your Apartheid Ancestor government. Were you going to ask this if it was a Springbok player ?

@GarethCliff: Why is it rude to ask who's paying for Senzo funeral ?

Why is it rude to ask white Apartheid beneficiaries to PAY MORE TAX ?

The ANC government paid for the funeral of a Black player who played for our National Team. We are unbothered.

And lastly, dont worry you and Steve will have an Orania Official Funeral. One of you will most probably officiate ones’ funeral depending on who dies first.
