Gautrainer-How to: #Spot a lame excuse # truth?

2015-06-23 19:06

Have you ever listened to  a really #lame excuse? We have all made #lame excuses in some way or another right? Ones that we have given deep thought to, in order for it to be believable – and, we have all listened to excuses and thought…yeah right, how daft do you think I am… or, wow, that must have been terrible!

We, South Africans, we are living “the dawning of the age of excuses” – frankly, it might not be the dawning but mid day already. So I thought maybe there must be a guideline of some sorts seeing as “some people” must be under the impression that we are all terribly gullible and will accept these excuses/reasons with peace in our hearts and hope for the future.

So here is my guideline to #spot a lame excuse –

  • For a long period of time the Gautrain management told us that they did not buy enough carts/coaches because they did not think it would be this popular… really? How many people in Gauteng do not have cars, and how many are opposed to e-tolls? And did you not do a due diligence before the time to gauge the interest or even notice how quickly your number of passengers increased?
  • Keeping the first “#lame excuse” in mind, did you read that they are thinking of extending the rail line all the way to Van der Bijl or Vereeniging, including Soweto? This whilst they claimed that they do not have enough passengers to justify the expense of more trains? Well, the line to Van der Bijl Park, it is finished already – before the announcement! And they are almost done with Soweto - this is a good thing, but are they ready?
  • Oh, and did you see the huge bill boards on the highway? I must say I had quite a laugh at the irony – sometime last week the “Western No Pass” became the “Western No Train” - in my mind of course. Maybe before we spend money increasing rail lines we should make what we have the best, then we know we can handle what we have well enough to take on more.

Some other #spot the lame excuse:

  • Anything that entails building a “kraal or chicken run” for safety purposes, and is then made to be a “truth” by our top so to call safety person, and he/they expect us to support these findings – pool businesses should be booming soon, so many fire hazards, so little pools.
  • “We do not know where that person of Sudan is, neither do we know if the plane has taken off” – firstly, for this person to be in South Africa and land at Waterkloof Air force base means that National Intelligence, National Safety and Police, the National Defense Force and various other people had to know and had to give permission for landing – and take off. So in a collaborated effort these people went against our Highest Court, the pillar of our Democracy, the only institution that protects us – and then, the plane and the person was gone – like magic…!
  • “We had no one else…” – no one else to what? Boost my career, get preferential tender treatment for me and some friends? If sir, you cared, truly cared about this country and all our beautiful people and cultures, unemployment and corruption then you don’t pick for yourself – you pick the person who will be the best for us all – not your aspirations.
  • “We don’t vote because nothing will change anyway” – I find myself wondering how many people in South Africa, under the age of 45 lives by this statement – it will take all of us, to make a change, if we expect it, then we better be it – it starts with one voice – we are the change.

  • This is an exceptional country with great talented people who deserve the best – but you have to give your best, every day.
  • You can make a difference, even if it’s a small one.
  • It is going to take every one of us,

Take the train, look around you, experience the wonderful people and demand the best because that is what you deserve. After all, we are paying for it, taxes, e-tolls and yes, ironic billboards!
