Glory Hunters

2014-09-28 00:40

Sport is a wonderful way to entertain yourself and it gives many of us something to talk about. There are some of us who watch the sport purely out of love for the game and there are those of us who support our teams until we die in our death beds. There is one type of sports fan I don't like much, those are glory hunters.

Glory hunters are people who support a team purely based on whether or not the team has had recent major success. An example of this would be the recent support Manchester City has received after splashing money for big stars and winning the league. Another example is when the fan stops supporting a team because their favourite player has joined another team (Ronaldo fans for example).

There are a couple of ways you can tell if someone is a glory hunter. The first reason that is clear is someone who changes teams that he or she supports. I call this reason the "Liverpool-Effect" because Liverpool lost many fans after hitting a slump when they sold Xabi Alonso. Second way to spot the dreadful glory hunter is someone who never watches their supposed 'favourite' team play.

These 'fans' (even though they don't deserve the tag of being a fan/supporter) only watch highlights and search twitter for the scoreline and tweet about how well they played. Third way is more about the pride you have for your team. There are self-proclaimed 'biggest fan' supporters who do not show it. You go through their pictures on twitter and facebook but will not find a thread of evidence that they support their team. Probably the worst one for myself personally is those fans who only talk/tweet about their team after they have won.

I do not have time for these people (Like the many Arsenal fans who popped out of nowhere when Arsenal won the FA Cup). Lastly another way to see a glory hunter is someone who has no clue which player plays for their team. I cannot watch football with these people. I appreciate someone who has knowledge of the players in that side, at least know the usual starting eleven.

There we have it, 5 ways to spot a 'Glory Hunter'. Are you one perhaps? Check if your friends are glory hunters. Glory hunters also deserve nice things in life because sport is beautiful and should always be a fun past-time activity.
