Graeme Smith inspired by the Springboks

2012-11-26 19:26

Graeme Smith has come out in praise of Springboks following the Proteas draw against Australia. Smith was interviewed in a post match press conference in Adelaide and rather surprisingly heaped praise on Heyneke Meyer's men. Smith thanked the Springboks for leading the way in 2012 and said they proved to be a shining light in the art of eking out a draw against all odds...

Smith added, 'Jean and the boys have been great all season. They certainly set the example for us and the draws they managed to secure against England and Argentina were nothing short of miraculous. How they did that is beyond me. People asked how we got through today but we certainly took our inspiration from the Springboks'. Smith said that Herschelle Gibbs had told him that the odds of the Boks drawing those two games were very slim indeed.

Heyneke Meyer had apparently also sent Gary Kirsten an inspiring text before the start of play on the fifth day of the test match with the words, 'If kissing your sister was as good as a draw, I'd be behind bars. Do it for your country.'

Faf Du Plessis, a proud Blue Bull supporter said that his motivation had come from Morne Steyn. He explained that, 'the way Morne has hung around the Bok team all season in truly trying times was certainly the inspiration behind my innings. He's been like a barnacle and I took a lot of heart from that.'

Smith said that the Proteas would be looking at winning the third test in Perth in a hope to secure their spot at the top of the world rankings just like the All Blacks.
