Growing Up Black In A White Man's World

2015-01-28 09:47

Mandela is the official godfather of our so called Rainbow Nation. In coming to power with the ANC Brotherhood, Madiba made us believe we could all become one unified nation despite our differences and despite our colonial past.

As a black person, I grew up under a system of institutionalized racism, where terrorist laws were legal and protected by the constitution. I realized the white race was the one in the wrong, but at the same time I was fascinated and mystified by their grandeur.

The greatest characters of our TV screens had white faces; the greatest scientists and inventors I studied about were whites. The greatest men and women of history were white as I was taught, and black people featured nowhere near anything prominent and worth taking pride in.

We were given subliminal and direct messages which made us accept that colonialism was basically the best thing that could have ever happened to Africa. The system was so deeply rooted in our psyche that we believed white people killing and ruling over us was for the best of all concerned actually. In our collective understanding, whites were divine and had brought civilization to a savage continent.

History Of Colonialism

This atrocious act of colonialism was nothing new under the sun actually. Since the beginning of human civilization, stronger nations always sought to exercise authority and lordship over the weaker ones for social and economic reasons. Clearly this kind of relation was founded on immoral rule and has always been condemned by intellectuals of antiquity. It has always been an act of might over humanity.

Egypt was supposedly the first world power. All the known kingdoms were as such subjected to devious Egyptian authority. Assyria became the second world ruler when the ship of Egypt sank, so to speak. Along came the Babylonian Empire afterward, which was swiftly ousted by the Medo-Persian, led by Cyrus. But in a short stretch, Greece soon came swooping in like an eagle with a leader by the name of Alexander. Hot on the heels of Greece was the Roman Empire, perhaps the most illustrious and brutish thus far.

The rise of Islam in the 7th century signaled another stage in the wars for global domination, at a period when the Christian Roman Empire was divided and weak (Rome and Constantinople). Taking into consideration the brief domination of the Mongolian Empire, the middle Ages and onward saw the gradual rise of the Indo-European Empire. Power shifted between France, Spain and Portugal before the primarily Germanic (Anglo-Saxon) takeover in the 15th century.

White Supremacy

When the whites came to power in the 15 centuries since the era of ‘Our Lord’ commenced, they applied the same methods which most other previous empires had, and perhaps even went steps further. In the scenario which followed colonial intent, Kingdoms or Nations were combated and destroyed; land and property were seized; people were either killed or enslaved; new norms were introduced; and the settlers became the ruling class.

Between 1652 and 1913, Europeans set adequate standards for a fully-fledged colony in Southern Africa. This was accomplished and administered in sequence by the British Union and the Afrikaner Republic, which officially ruled between 1913 and 1994. It was between 1913 and 1994 that openly racist and inhuman legislation was enforced over the Natives on the basis of their natural being by both regimes.

Like many other black South Africans, I was as such born into a white world, where being black was a natural disadvantage. History classes taught us black people were basically lazing off unnecessarily or stabbing the daylights out of each other in directionless tribal wars when Whites came to save us and civilize us.

As it turned out, it wasn’t even the legendary Whites’ intentions to settle here. They were only looking for a refreshment station on their path to and from the east. One coincidence then led to another, and white people ended up controlling all of South Africa. Common History education was basically melded to justify the atrocious crimes which came with colonialism.

From Apartheid To Globalism

A basic key which made White Supremacy thrive was an adoration of the oppressor instilled in the psyche of the defeated. Through film, the media and social structuring, white people were our greatest idols, despite their treating us so inhumanely. As much as we despised whites, we desperately craved for their acceptance, and we completely believed we were not capable of being independent of them.

Even in our liberation struggle and negotiations for freedom, it seemed as if the whites were doing us a great favour by participating in peace talks. Black people basically went all out for reconciliation, and in our gullibility we forgave people who were not remorseful in the first place. In the New South Africa, we were still blindly chasing after the elusive whites and doing all we could to be acknowledged and appreciated by them. This made it extremely difficult to make rational demands and set logical standards in as far as social and economic balance was concerned.

In this space of confusion, the ANC leadership did very little in combating the cancer of black inferiority complex. We were not given the true and proud reflection of our history, but were subjected to more cancerous western rhetoric in the name of reconciliation. The same people who were villains during our oppression were now heroes in the new democracy. Our new black leaders were taking endless flights to the west for advice and solutions.

As much as we were freed from institutionalized white minority rule, we were now enslaved to a white dominated global economy. Our black leaders had sold our freedom to globalist governance, where white monopoly capital made social and economic decisions on behalf of all human beings on earth. Multinationals from both the G20 and BRICS countries have thus taken the place of apartheid, and they all continue to blatantly feed the doomed monster of White Supremacy. ©
