Happy Birthday to the Wonder Known as EFF

2017-07-28 03:51

EFF is four years old this week! Happy Birthday EFF!

EFF has capped South African politics. I have coined an acronym and called it CAP to show the cap that EFF is to our politics.

Briefly what does the acronym CAP mean?

The C in CAP refers to Class. Class both in form and content of character. EFF has shown sheer class in Parliament. It has completely opened Parliament and made it live to its essence as an institution of the people not owned only by some arrogant political party. Before EFF came into Parliament the opposition forces were accustomed to be bullied and bulldozed by ANC. EFF gave them a wake up call.

EFF compromises the best and sharpest of brains at its top leadership level. EFF is crème de la crème of South African brains. If South Africa has a handful of leaders whose class have premium value then EFF leaders are top billing.

And then the A in CAP simply means Authenticity. Being Authentic means being true to your own self and not beating about the bush. It means being direct, stating the truth. Many people find EFF language too stylistically strong and challenging. Stating the truth most of the time hurts people. Authenticity is about remaining true to your own colors and not being like a turn coat. Everyone knows what EFF stands for. Because EFF leader Julius Malema is straightforward and direct, people misunderstand him. The false narrative is out there that “Julius Malema is full of anger, hot headed, ill-discipline and a rabble rouser who will destroy this country!”

EFF is fighting to create pipelines that connect the majority of people to opportunity, and they are true and direct in expressing that message in every platform.

The P in CAP stands for Perseverance. You cannot persevere if you are not driven from within. EFF is a roaring wild fire that refuses to be quenched. Many people have sought to cut the EFF down but it has prevailed against all evil forces. Being persistent means being strong and not accepting defeat. It is about keeping pushing in the midst of great obstacles. In Parliament EFF broke the ANC’s game of fibs and obfuscations and took Parliament closer to the people.

ANC MPs shouted and danced in celebration of Nkandla corruption and wanted to shut down any opposition to that corruption. But EFF was determined and persevering to stop the corruption: Every time the president was in Parliament they chanted:

Pay back the money!

Pay Back the Money!

Pay Back the Money!

This song was an instant hit, and ultimately it seemed to be a national anthem as South Africans sang it in their everyday lives.

And the money was paid. Perseverance!

Much can be said here but we only mentioned the highlights.

Marikana Massacre

It was in Marikana that EFF carried South Africa in the moment of its greatest pain. Tens of miners were mowed down by State police, cut down like a hunter killing wild animals. No political leader ever came on the scene of the murder. The first person who ever visited the place of the murder scene – the river of blood was Julius Malema. He came to a group of surviving miners and greeted them consoling and counselling them from their deepest pain, asking them how they feel and so on.

Dali Mpofu carried the plight of the miners further, maneuvering through the legal avenues and providing free legal advice and representation.

It was a heavy – very heavy - weight indeed placed on the shoulders of Dali Mpofu. He did not break or give up. He could have dropped the poor miners once the cameras left town, but his heart was not about hooking the headlines but providing genuine deep felt help. Remember he could have been somewhere generating hundreds of millions of money as a top lawyer, he is one of South Africa’s top super legal eagles.

Dali Mpofu was further instrumental in organizing the mass memorial ceremony and acted not only as programme facilitator but also doing the logistics, carrying buckets of water and so on. That is EFF - its class is being with the people, getting into overalls and getting dirty.

EFF carried the hopes and aspiration of Marikana to Parliament. Marikana resident Primrose Sonti was prominently against the police murder of miners. She is now part of EFF MPs in Parliament. This is what she says about how she sees her role in Parliament: “I got to Parliament because of the people who voted for the EFF – including those from Marikana – and I promised them I will never desert them. This is the reason I always highlight their plight in Parliament, and speak about their views on the Marikana massacre”.

EFF went on to become the biggest financial contributor to Marikana Trust Fund among all political parties.

The Land Problem

EFF was direct and forthright on the land question. Today all political parties are talking about land and things are bound to happen soon that will go a long way in resolving the critical land issue. The land factor is now an everyday conversation because of the EFF.

EFF, the New Mandela

EFF resists and seeks to bend down all movements that put people in harm’s way. The first notable project that EFF executed successfully was to break down the chronically corrupt ANC and ANC looters in South Africa’s biggest and most important metros: Johannesburg and Tshwane. In order to achieve this it overstretched itself and created unlikely partnerships and open unexpected doors.

Anything or anyone who has the potential of creating conditions for millions of South Africans to be economically free is the friend of EFF. No one is excluded. EFF is led by men and women of class and character not people who yup about race in every turn.

The suffering of Black is escalating in all angles. And ANC don’t care; they complain, even today they are still very bitter, "EFF should have voted for us"!  No matter how they steal and loot, EFF must vote with them, because they are both Black! Why are they causing so much suffering and poverty among Black people? I believe ANC subconsciously thinks that it is doing Black people a favor by making them more poorer.

Bold, courageous people do all they can, go all out of the way, to improve the world whereas cowards merely talk about the problems.

Wonderful Women of South Africa

We are just into the month of August – which is women’s month. What is the contribution of EFF for the plight and concerns of women in our society?

Let us mention few cases briefly.

The rising EFF star Naledi Chirwa together with her EFF friends unofficially outside EFF organised a demonstration during the local government elections announcements. They helped South Africans and the world to remember Khwezi, a woman who suffered greatly under the hands of a powerful politician. They took that moment when power was being announced to highlight the condition of women, the powerless and the abused.

EFF is a leading political party that is genuinely pushing the agenda of women. EFF Treasurer Leigh-Ann Mathys is radiant grassroots community builder. Her recent grassroots project was in organizing and participating in a night vigil with Soul City in Soweto against rape and abuse of women.

Happy Birthday wunderkind! Happy Birthday EFF!
