How EFF should fight ANC War Room in 2019

2017-01-26 10:04

If the ANC can play around with R50 million cash to fight off (with the intention to destroy) EFF for the lowly local government elections, what do you think it will do when the stakes are so big and so high during the national general elections of 2019? It will be total mayhem. It will be no laughing matter.

If the EFF is not careful it is going to be blown off in the coming general elections.

In this article I preview the 2019 general elections with consideration of the EFF within the broader political campaigning, and what positions it should adopt for it to crest the waves.

The  very fact that there is an idea there in the air that ANC might lose the general elections is in itself setting the scene for an explosion. For the first time ANC will be getting into the general elections uncertain, and doubtful of itself. And because of that it will enter the campaign arena firing in all directions. It is going to go on the offensive even before the bell starts ringing.

And who will be the closest and first target? EFF

Within that context EFF will have to remain focused. It should be stabilized on a fixed clear slogan. The EFF has no cash to through around. The ANC will outclass it 100 million to 1. That means with every R100 million ANC has EFF will have only R10.

Donald Trump was a novice and he won the America elections from an experienced personality in the name of Hillary Clinton. President Donald Trump could not match Hillary Clinton dollar to dollar.

Its the same thing, EFF facing the ANC.

President Donald Trump won the elections for standing for what he says is the "forgotten man". That means American white working class languishing in the American farming villages and mining towns. The blue color white worker, the welders, the boilermakers, the plumbers. That is what "America First" meant. "We are going to put a lot of people back to work. We are going to use common sense and we are going to do it the way it is supposed to be done".  He appealed to them powerfully.

Its the same thing with EFF, its standing for the forgotten poor Africans.

Donald Trump settled on a clear focused slogan: "Make America Great Again".

The Hillary Clinton camp was  not focused. Before they settled for “Stronger Together,” there was “I’m With Her,” and “Fighting for Us” and “Breaking Down Barriers.”.

Donald Trump was consistent and focused. “Make America Great Again” was everywhere. It was on the stage. It was on the placards the crowds held. It was on Trump's hat. There was not confusion only certainty. The slogan was bold and challenging. It inspired people that they can make a contribution personally, a contribution that will make America Great Again.

So what should be the slogan for EFF in the coming general elections? In picking a election slogan the EFF should note that there will be people who will be voting for them but they will not be actual members of EFF nor will they want to be EFF members. They will just want to vote for it. That is the mood, people like EFF and are impressed by it but cannot be members. A huge chunk of voters will come from the ANC base, they will be voting for EFF simply because as things are going within ANC now, there is nothing to motivate them to vote.

There are various slogans to consider, but I find the slogan "EFF All the Way" very appealing and inspiring. It is an appeal to take the EFF all the way. The slogan inspire people for action, to participate, to mobilize society all the way. I am brainstorming, and this is just one among many it can adopt.

History shows that slogans are key in winning elections.

Below are some of the most powerful elections slogans during the course of the American history.

"Keep Cool and Keep Coolidge" – The 1924 presidential campaign slogan of Calvin Coolidge. It was a powerful slogan that enabled Coolidge to win the elections against a formidable enemy.

"Who but Hoover?" – 1928 U.S. presidential campaign slogan of Herbert Hoover. Please note the powerful question in the slogan, which spells that there was no other person to lead but Hoover.

"Honest. Able. Fearless."  - Al Smith elected Governor of New York four times. The slogan was powerful as it brings together three opposing but related qualities: honesty, Ability and fearlessness.

"In Your Heart, You Know He's Right" – 1964 U.S. presidential campaign slogan of Barry Gold Water. It was a powerful message that gave Barry Goldwater a good start, but as you shall see below it was cut to pieces by yet another slogan.

"In Your Guts, You Know He's Nuts" – 1964 U.S. presidential campaign slogan of Lyndon B Johnson supporters, answering Barry Goldwater's slogan "In Your Heart, You Know He's Right"

"I Want Roosevelt Again!" - Third term election of President Franklin Roosevelt. A third term for Roosevelt was somehow illegal, but a strong case was made for him to campaign for a third term because of the wonderful things he has done.

In the next article I will look at the EFF communication ecology, what should it look like to face off with the bloody ANC War Room.
