I refuse to support Heyneke Meyer's Boks

I refuse to support the Springboks.

I refuse to support a team that is not picked on merit, by a man’s skewed belief that rugby players of a darker hue have no place in rugby.

As a patriotic rugby supporter, I am gatvol. This team does not represent me, it does not represent the nation, and it is blatant that Heyneke Meyer wants to undo the work that was done by his predecessors in selecting players from all walks of the rainbow.

We are a rainbow nation after all.

Think back to the PE test when Morne Steyn’s kicking was as accurate as Morne Morkel’s bowling. Why did the coach not bring on Elton Jantjies when it was apparent we needed some fresh legs on the park?

Then, fast forward to the Soweto test. He finally decided to drop Morne, and instead of starting with Elton, he brings on the hugely talented Johan Goosen. During the game, Goosen suffered a knock, and was visibly limping. Meyer refused to bring on Elton. It was only when the All Blacks scored that he decided to give him a chance.

That’s one example. Another is the continued sidelining of Lwazi Mvovo. Why does the coach, who has years and years of experience behind his name continue to play Francois Hougaard, a scrumhalf, on the wing? The lad has said himself that his scrumhalf play has suffered due to being shunted around the park by a coach who does not trust players who do not look like him.

Then there’s the Chilliboy case. When he was lightie, he was touted for big things. Jake White liked him. The media liked him. The blue painted forces of Loftus liked him. Heyneke did not. And his career has been slowed down. Sure, he’s not the best hooker in the country. Second after Bismarck.

But, according to Heyneke, he’s not as good as Schalk Brits.

I could go on and on about Meyer’s dodgy selections. Like how Siya, despite playing his balls off for the Stormers team which finished top of Super Rugby, has not even been given a sniff.

How then, does he expect people to support this team? I for one refuse to support the Springboks for as long as he is coach.

And we wonder why there are so many All Blacks supporters in the country.

New Zealand pick the best players, regardless of race. Something Heyneke Meyer has failed to do time and time again..

He must go!!!
