Is Mmusi the man?

2015-04-29 20:09

South Africa is once again at a point where the winds of change are blowing. Yes it is an exciting time indeed. As far as politics go there is a lot of uncertainty, a lot of turmoil and a lot of negativity. However, sometimes the sky needs to be black in order for the stars to shine. Everything isn’t negative.

One thing that can have a positive turnout is the change of leadership in the DA. New times necessitate new plans. The change of leadership in the Democratic Alliance seems to be necessary. A political party, any political party for that matter, is only as good and as strong as its leader. The leader of a political party is very much the face of that party. The leader epitomizes the brand. Whoever wins the leadership battle will have an adamant task ahead of him.

The next decade in South Africa will determine whether we will thrive or merely survive. The players in the political game that we call democracy, will have to make crucial decisions. Currently things in South Africa seem bleak. We need leaders who can take responsibility and make responsible decisions. Part of that responsibility is to oppose what we don’t like. In order to do that effectively we need a strong, robust opposition. The Democratic Alliance has always been a voice for those that oppose the ANC.

However as I’ve stated before, different times necessitate different plans. There is a new generation that will take part in politics. A younger generation. In order to reach those youngsters, we need someone who speaks their language. Whosoever leads the DA, will need to be able to relate to the younger generation.

I believe the person to do that is Mmusi. Why Mmusi? There are a lot of reasons. He is young, he can argue in a robust way. He is not afraid to speak his mind. In fact the man is fearless. South Africa is currently in a process where we need to rethink our approach to different issues. The way forward is certainly one where we are not afraid to speak up and address the corrupt culture that is slowly pervading every sphere of our country.

Our society is currently being held together by the threads of what was once a promising future. Currently our future seems bleak. We need to turn this around. Mmusi Maimane is not only well educated and a brilliant speaker, but listening to him a few days ago convinced me of the fact that the man has vision. He seems to know where we should be heading in the future.

Yes he is young. Yes he has less experience than his opponent. However no candidate is perfect. Musi is above all an African. He understands African ways.

The future of this country very much rests in the hands of the black youth. In order to reach that youth we need a candidate and a leader in the DA that they can identify with. Yes I know that more than ten years into democracy we shouldn’t be speaking in racial terms. Yet it is a fact that race is very much a part of our society. It’s not something that we can ignore. If we want to beat the ANC at its game, we need to reach the black masses.

For that to happen we need someone who can be a voice of reason amidst all the political turmoil. We need someone that will command respect. We need someone who transcends the Eurocentric face that used to dominate in the DA. We need an African, for this is Africa. We need an honourable man. We need Mmusi…
