It is Time the World Truly Understand Africa and Africans!

2013-10-17 13:02

What is the origin of Africans. In the East! In East Africa, that is where Africans begin.

Kenya is the heart beat of East Africa, the whole of Africa. Kenya is the melting pot of African ethnic groupings that have a rich long history and traditions.

The real Africa is not a monolithic bloc of people, with a unique identity - far from it. Africa and Africans are diverse - diverse in varied ways but most importantly with people from different cultures and traditional orientation. This knowledge is vital, it is key and essential - it has been the missing link. The lack of this knowledge or perhaps rather taking these African diversity for granted has caused untold harm.

Each African ethnic group has unique qualities, and most each ethnic group is proud about their uniqueness from other ethnic groupings.  Africans first and primarily take their pride from the immediate ethnic locale and then extent afterwards. To lampoon all people of Africa as one had brought all kinds of misunderstandings that had fostered ethnic strives.

The understanding of Africa is currently unfolding in the International Criminal Court (ICC)  on the cases involving the Kenyan heads of states, Deputy President William Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta. The cases that are trending across Africa and the world.

The understanding of Kenya helps to understand the rest of Africa, let us consider this aspect intensively;

Within Kenya there are the Kalenjin ethnic group, which their historical name is Sabea. The Kalenjins comes from Egypt. Even the Bible confirms the presence of the Sebei (Kalenjin) long time ago even before Abraham was born. Job 1:5 says "...and the Sabeans fell upon them and took them away." Ezekiel also wrote about the Kalenjins (Sabeans), a sub-tribe of Ancient Egyptians. ze:23:42 says, "..and a voice of multitude being at ease was with her, and with the men of the common sort were brought Sabeans from the wilderness which put bracelets upon their hands and beautiful crowns upon their heads."

In fact the Kalenjin tongue is basically a dialect of the Egyptian language, many Egyptian words and names are recognizable by the Kalenjin peoples.

Then you have the Kikuyus within the Kenyan community. The Kalenjins are very different from the Kikuyus. The Kalenjins are mostly tall, thin and deep black (probably you have seen them on TV dominating world marathons).

The Kikuyus are different and unique. The Kikuyu are the Bantu. And when you talk about the Bantu you hit South Africa with its 9 tribal rainbow. The reason why tribal strife could not and cannot sustain itself in South Africa is because all of the 9 tribal composition have one historical root, and mostly words in all the 9 tribal rainbow have one historical morphology. Apartheid with its tribal ideology failed and could not succeed because of this very reason.

The Kikuyu dominate the Central Province, Mount Kenya area. Mount Kenya, known as Kirinyaga, is the seat and base of the Kikuyu, after them the country Kenya is named. They dominate the economy. Kikuyus drive most of Kenya's matatus and its taxis, run its newspapers, and constitute much of its public service, their entrepreneurial reach extending from the glitziest of hotels to the remotest roadside duka (kiosk).

The reason why East Africa is a fertile ground for ethnic strife is because of the diversity of the ethnic groups. And that is why you have Deputy President William Ruto at the ICC. William Ruto as the distinguished Leader of the Kalenjins is accused of creating a network of violence against the Kikuyus in the year 2007 where half a million Kikuyus were killed, set alight, displaced and their hands and heads chopped off.

There are other tribes in Kenya such as the Luos, where President Barack Obama stems from, but the Kalenjins and the Kikuyu are dominating Kenyan politics. Kikuyus account 22 percent of Kenya's population of 38 million, while Kelenjins have a population of about 5 million.

Now the Kalenjins led by Deputy President William Ruto and the Kikuyus led by President Uhuru Kenyatta are coming together in effort of healing the nation, after the violence and are establishing a new united Kenya. The fact that William Ruto and Uhuru Kenyatta are now together leading Kenya as Deputy President and President respectively is a massive great effort and great determination for building one Kenya.
