Kanye West’s mind-set is what we need

2014-09-28 08:27

Kanye recently said “I promote self-confidence. If you’re a Kanye West fan you’re not a fan of me. You’re a fan of yourself.”

I am so tired of hearing such negative comments when it comes to Kanye West, we should be celebrating this man. We should be creating a global public holiday in his name. Am I the only person who sees what he is actually trying to portray to society?Kanye and his attitude should be instilled within schools in a manner that allows young children the privilege of learning to have this mind set.

We have approached various methods in attempting to address the deficiencies that result in high suicide rates and our youth lacking in self-confidence and having low self-esteem, all of which have failed dismally. The media and social networking applications have put huge pressure on our youth to live up to others and these constant comparisons have left most of our young people depressed and demotivated. These platforms should be used instead for motivational purposes, to encourage individualism. One thing most of these motivational speakers and seminars seem to forget is that you can only pull someone forward if they believe in this potential change. Hence, what usually happens is that people go for these talks and seminars, they feel motivated for a day or two but because that mind-set isn’t enshrined in them the motivation quickly disappears. We need to teach our youth to be so confident in themselves that even when the worst situation occurs they still find positives out of it.

Kanye is the type of person who says what other people are thinking but are too scared to say. That is why I think so highly of him, we live in a generation where there are secrets, back stabbing and hate towards the people we call our closest friends. We live in a generation where values and morals come after success and after having been reckless with our actions. We live in a generation where being faithful and building something great with one person is blurred by the lust of others. We live in a generation where we live for material objects instead of moments that we will remember for the rest of our lives.

The ways of Mr. West are indeed a rarity. Gayton Mckenzie is someone I have been ever to privileged to stumble upon who, just like Kanye, will say the things other people are too scared to say. Gayton recently released his latest book called “The Uncomfortable Truth”; this book is what every single woman in South Africa should read. Gayton opened that door, you know the door that every single playboy wished would never be opened. The Uncomfortable Truth addresses almost every type of girl, from the Kim Kardashian type to the Amber Rose type and enlightens our women in ways that would never be achieved through any other educational platform. This Steve Harvey style book tells women to understand and think like a man so that they can counter these terms like “side girls “and “my not-so-serious girl”.

Today, relationships are not as simple as, say 20 or 30 years ago. Today relationships and love are more like a chess game. Things should most certainly not exist as such but you know what they say, even when you aren’t playing the game, the game is still on.

With all the positive influences Kanye has had internationally, I am undoubtedly of the opinion that Kanye West has won.
