Let's get #JimmyNevisBeyonce trending

2015-11-10 11:03

I recently met Jimmy Nevis at the GQ Best Dressed event where we both made the Top 50 list. He is such a wonderful guy, very friendly and extremely ambitious. He impressed me so much that I thought that I have to do a News 24 interview with him.

Please find below the Q&A with Jimmy Nevis. After noticing what #FeesMustFall did socially, I think it's fair to say anything is possible so is a huge collaboration with Beyonce and our very own South African superstar Jimmy Nevis. I'm holding fingers that this happens. We need your support to make this happen! Hashtag #JimmyNevisBeyonce on all social media platforms.

1. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

In 5 years I'll be living across 3 Continents, on a world tour and I would have my own record label and a successful clothing line. I will also have my own TV show as well as many international hits. I pray this in God's name!

2. What advice do you have for the current youth of South Africa?

My advice is to go out there and make things happen. Don't wait for anyone to make your dreams a reality.

3. What is your opinion on #FeesMustFall and the idea of “Free Education” in our lifetime?

I think it's a necessity. This would create a more equal access to education, making it easier for students who come from underprivileged backgrounds to study further. This is about opportunity and every young person should be allowed to be the best version of themselves.

4. Do you offer mentorship opportunities for young singers who would like to learn from you?

I don't mentor to the public anymore as it has become too difficult with my own schedule but I do mentor the artists signed to the label that I'm with (Rude World Records). I also produce and write for some of them.

5. Who is your primary role model?

It would have to be my parents. They are a true example of hard work, courage and believing in God. They have always been my greatest support.

6. What would be your perfect collaboration?

If you could collaborate with any artist internationally?

It would have have to be either Jamie Cullum or Beyonce. Even though they are so different in genre, they have both played such a big role in shaping the artist that I am.

7. Tell us more about the Blue Collar Foundation?

It's an organisation that I started earlier this year. The focus is aimed at empowering underprivileged youth through systems of training and education. More information can be found on the website: bluecollarfoundation.co.za

8. Any upcoming events or gigs?

My Kirstenbosch summer sunset concert on Dec 27 is going to be amazing but there's always something happening so follow me on social media for more details.

9. What has been the best moment of your life thus far?

Wow. I think graduating from UCT, traveling to Dubai and LA, opening for Pharrell, singing the national anthem at the Rugby Final 2014 - Just to name a few. These have been highlights of my life and my career thus far.

10. How important is networking in today’s society?

It's one the best ways of building a brand and staying in touch with the world around you. I've found it to be incredible in communicating with my fans and getting people to my shows. It has also become a new business tool as other brands pay you to tweet or post something.

11. Congratulations on your GQ Best Dressed listing, what would you say is your favourite dress code and style?

My stage outfits - My stage style is a sensationalised version of my general style but I enjoy it because it allows me to experiment with different designers and different looks. It's more creative.

12. Where can we get your latest album and how much does it cost?

My latest album is called The Masses. It should retail at about R120 in stores.
