Losing Street Credibility

Seven ways in which a guy will lose his street credibility.

As I was washing the dishes, a random thought hit me. Is the practice of washing dishes detrimental to a man's street credibility. Now, obviously that will not be the case but it gave me an idea to compile the top actions that are guaranteed to lose street credibility with your peers and the general public.

First up, is holding your girlfriend's handbag in the mall. Many people will argue that it is for security reasons. I would understand that reason but the problem is that there are hundreds of other women holding their own handbags. Should the mall be empty, situated in a dodgy area, and with no security guards, then we might have a different story (but then again who goes to a mall that is desserted?).

Walking into a store knowing very well you cannot afford to purchase their cheapest item. This actually happened to me in Cape Town a few years ago. We went to explore the V&A Waterfront and its many stores. We walked into one up-market store and regretted it. The guy who worked at the store just broke down in laughter as we walked in as well as when we walked out. Even gave us the thumbs up, as to say it happens everyday.

Licking ice-cream from a cone in public. Somehow the sight of a man sticking his tongue in and out of his mouth is unimagineable.

Getting friend-zoned in public. This has been a major problem to many men in their private capacity. The advantage when you are being zoned in private is that it can be kept discreet. Imagine you confess your love to a woman in a mall or restaurant full of people(movie style) and the girl stares at you and asks you the painful question; "I thought we were just friends? I really value our friendship and do not want to risk it(serves any guy right for waiting that long though)"

Picking your nose in public. This is basically a no-brainer. No one should be found focused on the removal of precious jewels inside one's nose. It is not healthy to start off with. The act of picking one's nose is definitely not a pretty sight. A grown man busy sticking his finger passionately inside his nose hoping to find hidden treasures. The worst is when he believes that these treasures are equivalent to actual fruit (talk about the fruit of your labour).

Chewing gum in public is something that is regularly frowned upon. Well, unless your name is Sir Alex Furguson, then it is absolutely unacceptable to chew gum like it is a pair of socks being washed by hand. In many ways you are also putting yourself at a disadvantage with all the chewing. The flavour probably runs out a lot quicker (Although I cannot scientifically prove that point).

So there is this trend going on that I was made aware of recently. There are actually guys who go around calling every attractive girl as "nice" for example; Girl walks past a group of guys and all she hears from those grown male men is, "Hello Nice". I cannot find a reason how that even came into being. Further research really needs to be done into that matter. Fascinating how people come up with these phrases and terms.

If you are someone who really values your street credibility, these seven public acts are ones that you need to stay away from. Remember that once you are out in public, the process of self-marketing starts there. Your actions are a yardstick of your assertiveness.
