Making South Africa great again starts with you and me

2017-01-23 14:08

Now is the time for all South Africans to focus on deepening the values and ideals embedded in our Constitution. This must happen at all levels of society as well as translating it into action plans that will benefit all of our people.

Of paramount importance though is unifying our people across racial boundaries. Our Constitution lays a firm basis for the protection, development and deepening the attainment of human rights. More so it affirms diversity as one of the primary treasures of our nation.

Despite these lofty ideals racism raises its ugly head from time causing even greater division and hatred between fellow south Africans. Making South Africa great again goes hand in hand with building a society that will not tolerate discrimination on the grounds of race, gender, ethnic or social origin, colour, culture, and language, (amongst others.)

Derogatory and racist attitudes, language and demeaning actions have no place in our society.

Action is also now required to grow the economy, ensure a fair trade international dispensation, build self-reliant and healthy communities, provide quality education and other public services and to eradicate corruption, poverty, crime, etc. These are critical priorities which will come back to haunt us if we do not address it.

No more talk shops and workshops. Start executing and deliver on plans aimed at creating opportunities for all. Annually our government spends millions on all kinds of workshops with no tangible outcome. This must stop!

As a nation, we've chosen the path of reconciliation, nation building and progress for all in 1994, not the path of insular and self-centered politics that are on the rise all over the world.

Let us remain true to the ideal of achieving equality, the advancement of human rights and freedoms, non-racialism and non-sexism, the supremacy of the constitution and the rule of law.

Making South Africa great again starts with you and me!
