Matric Exams - In 18 Days... You Ready?!

2016-10-05 10:40

The Matric Exams start on Monday, 24 October this year.

Yes you CAN still improve your matric results. Depending on your subjects, you might have more than 19 days left to study and prepare. This is the most important exam of you life – so keep pushing!

What must you do in the final days of exam preparations?

Matric Exams... Are you Ready?!

There are lots of advice for matric students. I will try and give you the basics. The simple things that can actually make a difference. Here is my exam preparation list:

Make a Plan

Break up the time you have left. Decide what days you will focus on what subjects. Plan what you will do each hour of each day.

Regular Breaks help you stay calm and stay focussed

You are used to working for 30 minutes to 45 minutes at a time. So take a break after 45 minutes. Get up, breath, walk around. Then get back to work!

Old Exam Papers

If you think you know a subject, then do an old exam paper. Do it under exam conditions. That means you set the same amount of time that you would have for the real exam. This will quickly show up the areas that you are struggling with.

Teaching Other Students

One of the best ways to check your own understanding, is to explain the work to someone else. So put aside some time to help someone in the areas you are good in, and where they struggle. And in this way you also do your bit to help improve our country and our society. “Each one, helps one.”

Get Help

If you know what areas you are struggling with, get help for those areas. But that means you have already done the work and you know what you struggle with. It is easy to help someone that is struggling with a specific topic or page. But if you ask someone to help you with the whole subject, they won't be able to help you.

Show that you are Serious about your Exams

Many schools have their teachers available for extra time to help their matric students. The students who are showing that they are serious about this exam, and working hard to do their best, are the ones that will get the most help. So make sure you show the right attitude. This is serious stuff, so don't play around when it comes to people working extra hours to help you do your best.

Additional Help

There are a number of people and organisations that offer help to students. If you can't afford to pay for help, then you should be joining organisations like Ikamva Youth.

If you can afford to pay for help, then you can look for a private tutor in your area.

You can also consider online study groups like Together We Pass. They have just launched interactive online tests and answers for Matric students. This is a very good way to check your knowledge and sharpen up before the exam.

Lastly, there are some websites that specialise in helping Matric Students, here, and here.
