Growing up I always wanted role models that were around the same age as me, I wanted to learn from someone that is going through the same or similar life experiences as me. Unfortunately back then all my role models were at least 15-20 years older than me.  Today we are blessed with a young generation advocating for change in society, they are movers and shakers. Our youth that are still in high school and primary school have magnificent role models that are just above their age.

I sat down with a few of these leaders and innovators. We discussed the idea behind packaging such influence and injecting it into as many young people as possible. Creating a dream team of leaders and innovators and building up a motivational brand that will change the lives of the students that come into contact with it.

We looked at a name that we could call ourselves. Something that will best describe what we are all about at the same time it will describe what we plan to do to move South Africa forward. We came up with the name The UnderDogs because we have all been through struggles and we want our fellow youth to understand that it is a part of the process towards growth and success. Defeating and overcoming a struggle will teach you a lot more than just simply breezing through life.

The UnderDogs have already started their journey.  We spent some time in Bloemfontein, Free State speaking to UFS and their Golden Key Honours Society students which was a huge success. We spoke at The Hill High School in the south of Johannesburg where MTV Base was present to watch and film the talk. The talk was based on the xenophobic attacks and how we as the South African youth should stand up and support our fellow African brothers and sisters. The main purpose of the UnderDogs is to grow the brand so that young people can understand that the future is theirs for the taking. We emphasized that we as the future of this country need to comprehend that validation isn’t needed for us to grow and achieve our dreams. We don’t need someone to tell us if we can or can’t do something. We should have so much of confidence in our own abilities that we don’t need that validation.

The UnderDogs will be visiting many schools and universities over the next few months. It is all about African Progression and I hope that all the teachers, principals, lecturers and students from the various schools and universities read this article and approach The UnderDogs to speak to your school or university. All talks are at no charge to any school or university.
