Nairobi Terror: A Heinous Crime

2013-09-23 07:21

The grim scenes coming out from the Westgate mall in Nairobi bring to mind such pain and shock that is hard to express. How much of hatred and wickedness must be inside a human being to terrorise and murder innocent children, women and men like that?

This heinous and senseless terror attack needs to be condemned in the strongest possible terms. It has no religious association and cannot be accepted or justified under any pretext. To commit violence, murder and terrorise innocent people using the name of religion is unacceptable.

No one with a shred of humanity would commit such dreadful acts against innocent civilians and defenceless people.

According to news reports, Somalia’s Al Shabaab group claimed responsibility for the deadly violence in Kenya. Although it has an Arabic name, meaning youth, it does not represent Islam or Muslims. Its policies and methods are truly against Islamic principles and objectives. Such terrorist actions are bad for the reflection of Islam, especially in the broader community.

No belief, cause, or religion could ever forgive or condone such cruelty. The perpetrators of these heinous acts of horror must be brought to justice.

This latest terrorist attack on innocent human beings is a harsh reminder that the persisting danger of terrorism is real and remains a difficult challenge to overcome. It requires a rigorous, unified and prolonged response from the global community.

The root causes of terrorism should be investigated and work-shopped. Thereafter, global leaders should work towards eradicating and addressing these causes.

My deepest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved families.

May the Almighty heal the injured, bring comfort to those mourning the dead and grant the Kenyans the muscle and resilience to deal with this catastrophe.
