Naked issue. Confidence issue. What's the issue?!

2015-02-23 15:17

In recent weeks we have been thrown at with images of international famous person, Kim Kardashian with nothing on, all in an attempt to break the internet. We can see literally everything. I have to say though, I'm so glad that 'culture' of nakedness has not reached our shores. And I hope it never does. Because honestly, I don't even know why she does it. So much of it at that.

I wonder, is it because she is confident? Or she simply has nothing to lose. Who knows?! Putting aside that women who expose themselves like that, well.. Because she is not the only one. But, yes.. Putting aside the fact that these women some are wives and mothers, question really is why bother to expose so much of yourself for the whole world to see? Are we honestly living in such a time that we consider all this to be normal? I hope not.

And, without making references to the bible or any religious reasoning... But that cannot be how we treat our bodies. Also, with regards to the youth seemingly being told that, "oh no, you are still young so be free with your body, because you will never be this young and sexy again." Granted, but must it be for everyone to see? No.

I personally really don't think that trying to shift the minds of young women into believing that being comfortable in your skin means exposing it so much for many to see. Because, she (famous person) has claimed to want to be the voice that helps young women accept their curvy bodies. I can think of multiple ways in which empowering young women about their self confidence can be achieved.

Can we not perpetuate the idea that the more naked a women is or the more open she is with her body, the more confident she is. No matter what shape or form, size or colour. If we are to teach young girls and women to love and accept themselves, let's not do so by teaching them that ones expression of confidence is through being naked.

And as the saying goes, when you are comfortable in your own skin theres never a reason to prove yourself to anyone. So, in my view... If you have to be naked to put across the idea that you are confident, then how confident are you if you have to prove that to everyone else either than yourself?

Realistically, no one can be covered from head to toe. More so if you don't practice certain religions. Granted. Like being at the beach for example, we can deem that necessary to at least expose your body. And that's just being half naked, because no one expects to swim in tracksuits anyway. Also, the idea that certain body types can get away with being naked has to be done away with.  The media, mainly the fashion industry I suppose and society at large attempts to instill the perception that the thinnest women can get away with just about anything. I'm amongst some of the "skinny" people one will ever meet, but I wouldn't say that I'd jump at the chance to expose my body. Not because I'm not confident, but because I strongly have a firm believe that my body is not for everyone to see in that light.

My thing is, we can't allow ourselves to start believing this.

If you are going to expose yourself so extensively, please be sure that that's not all you have to offer. Remember, 'Young women, you are more than your thighs and your hips. You are beautiful, strong and powerful. Take your place in the world.'
