On the eve of the funeral service of Fidel Castro

2016-12-04 04:26

The death of Fidel Castro has divided the world so intensely. On the extreme angle are those who adore and adulate him. While on the other side are those who are provoked to fulsome hate by the mere mention of his name. There are those who celebrated because he has died and there are those who celebrated because he has lived the life he lived, done what he did, and stood for what he stood. But one thing is clear, none, friends or foe can ignore him.

Much can be said against Cuba. But these are the other facts worthy of note. There are no beggars in Cuba as we have many of them in South Africa. There is no abject poverty in Cuba like we have in America and South Africa. In America 50 million people are living in poverty.

There are no people living underneath bridges as it happens in many States in United States of America. Cuba provides the best free education while the American student is is drowning under student loans that bring all sorrow, stress and depression the rest of life. Cuba has a 99.8 percent literacy rate; classroom size is 12-1, while in some States in America the ratio is 35-1.

Cuba has 70,000 qualified medical doctors on a about 11 million population. Compare that with the whole continent of Africa. The whole continent of Africa has total of around 50,000 qualified medical doctors with a population of more than 1 billion people.

The renowned African American Broadcast journalist Tavis Smiley and the great African American scholar Cornel West in 2012 undertook poverty tours on a bus across the USand were shocked about the level of poverty in America. They called this tour: “The Poverty Tour: A Call to Conscience”.
