The art of mingling or rather networking with people interested in things that are the same as you or even different will open opportunities for you to market yourself. This means attending corporate lunches, workshops including that AGM meeting you dread so much. The essence of networking is exchanging contact details to prospective people who share a similar vision to yours or who might add a different light to your world so live a little and mingle.

2.Be genuine and authentic

The key to marketing yourself efficiently is to be genuine and to establish an identity. There is nothing more crippling in marketing than a brand or product with no identity.Be yourself and use your cultural, language, religious background as a marketing strategy.Knowing who you are will help you gain confidence and grow an assertive attitude towards issues that may be contrary to who you truly are.

3.Get technology savvy

It is important to have an online presence in order for people to find you easily without hassle.Using social networks such as Facebook,Twitter,LinkedIn will help build you an online portfolio where people can view your profile.Starting a blog will also open opportunities for others to view your ideas and learn more about who you are. According to the 2012 African Mobile Factbook, mobile phone subscriptions in the world stand at 5.98 billion and Africa has approximately 644 million subscribers. Therefore technology is a great tool to use in promoting yourself especially with the growth of mobile technology in the world.

4.Start a group

It is not a bad idea to gather a few people to discuss things that are of interest to you and them. This would enhance or build your leadership, public speaking and people skills.Whether you are leading a pack of wolves or a congregation of angels the opportunity to promote yourself is always present. It is imperative that you remember that the brand stays the same no matter the audience. If someone is listening then the chance to strut your stuff is there too.

5.Lend a hand

Helping someone or volunteering at a charity says a great deal about your character. This is a perfect ingredient in selling yourself or marketing your personal brand. The good deed will leave a good impression on the community and will leave you feeling great about yourself. It is important to know that good deeds come back to do you well also.

6.Read a book

Visiting the library downtown to read a book about the world outside your doorstep will help you understand how other minds think, how other people live and why things in the world are the way they are.Knowledge will always be a powerful weapon and it is a strong tool in becoming a good communicator. In order to market yourself efficiently you must first understand your audience.

7.Keep your word

If you promise to do something for someone then do it.In most times, excuses and dishonesty cripples a persons reputation. It is very difficult to gain a persons trust after building a reputation of being "Lord of all excuses" or "Queen of dishonesty".Keep your reputation clean and act on your word. If there is a reason for not being able to deliver on your promise then make sure you communicate with the person.

8.Play the dare game

Do something you have never done before like wearing that pink lipstick you bought last summer. This does not mean partake in activities that will land you behind bars. This simply means experiencing something new and having fun. If you are a woman, maybe stepping out the house without make-up for a day will arouse the curiousity of people who never for a day dare face the world without make up. If you are a man, then how about you wear that shirt that You have been dreading to wear. It does not hurt to be a little daring sometimes.

9.Ask for mentoring

In your journey you will need people to be references for either a job, business deal or simply adding a few good words for you in a prospective relationship.Mentors will teach you everything you need to know about life and will add value to your life.Mentors are usually people who have useful connections with communities and influential people.Your association with a mentor will enhance your personal brand which will work to your advantage.

10.Keep in touch with your contacts

It is important to communicate with your contacts, make an effort to leave a message on their facebook inbox or meet them once in a while. The people you know are a mirror of who you are and what you will be in the future. Therefore, mix with the right group in order to reflect well to others.
