Postmortem or vivisection of the Local Government Election

2016-08-05 20:20

Now that the dust is settling its time for sober reflection and deep introspection. I'm not talking about navel gazing introspection but serious action intended analysis.

One thing  is clear and that is: its becoming clearer still that the ANC got a hiding all round in the #LGE2016. The ANC deserved losing for instance Nkandla, Oudshoorn and Mandela Bay Municipality because it lost its moral and ethical compass. It's not the ANC of Mandela and Luthuli anymore. It has mutated to an alien form riddled with a criminally and morally lapsed leadership that needs to be replaced.

Let me plainly say this. ZUMA MUST BE RECALLED  as MBEKI was recalled by the party structures that lost faith in a narcissist who operated from Mount Olympus far removed from the people. Not only Zuma, but all those who supported  him and who went all the way to shield him from the excesses that the public protector exposed in Nkandla for instance.

Zuma operated like Louis 14th of France who wás aware that the people of France were starving and in a violently desperate mood, desperate enough to terminate the king and all who were beneficiaries in the ancien regime..... and he did nothing. So its " off with his head."

What is shocking is that over 18 million people  did not  even bother voting. What is further shocking is that many stalwarts openly advocated not voting for the ANC and the fact that Ghaleb Cachalia joined the DA confirmed how far the ANC drifted from its grundnorm, the Freedom Charter. That is an indictment and the clearest indication that, as the Constitutional Court confirmed that we have an awaiting trial indictee as head of our government. For the sake of the party and country Mr Zuma should  have stepped down. But Mr Zuma chose party over country  and that upset decent and loyal ANC supporters who refused to vote in the local government elections as a sign of protest for the current leadership tolerated no dissent.

It might have lost Johannesburg to the DA and squeaked ahead in Tshwane. This means  that the ANC must, in the next few weeks start to jettison those lapsed politicians who cost it dearly and there are serious indications that it will lose more ground  in 2019. If it doesn't  standby for a period of dissent  that will find it being rent asunder.

Its 54.1% of the estimated 8 million people who voted, realistically translated means that 4,320,000 of the 26 million people supported it. Even on a roughest guestimate this is  a miserable  result and confirms  that its no longer popular and that if this trend  continues it will lose more ground in 2019.
