The Proteas are about to attempt a feat that has never been achieved by any South African side in the history of the tournament. AB de Villiers and company head down under in search of their maiden Cricket World Cup triumph. It will be a tough ask for the boys in green and gold but they will be raring to go and maintain calmness and hope to forget about the dreadful 'C' word.

The boys in green and gold have managed to do well in the lead up to the CWC by winning the home ODI series against a West Indies side that did little to compete against the top talent that is boasted by the Proteas line-up. Although many blamed the absence of big players in the form of Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard. South Africa had standout performers in the form of spinner Imran Tahir, David Miller in his new role up the order, the ever reliable Hashim Amla as well as the talented captain of the side,AB de Villiers.

The Proteas can win this elusive trophy but they will need to step up a notch as well as develop major BMT. When it comes to the batting side of things, the top 5 will need to ensure that they fire on all cylinders so that the lower order are not under pressure. This is quite possible looking at who is in the top 5. My top 5 players up front would have to be Quinton de Kock and Hash to get proceedings underway with Faf at 3 and AB in at 4. David Miller will complete the top order. JP Duminy will be a great number 6 purely based on his skill set that he brings to the side. As much as there is speculation that Farhan Behardien won't be a starter but I believe he has done well to get a starting berth. The bowlers will be the usual suspects in the form of Tahir, Steyn, Morkel and Philander. As much as the side is not the most balanced, it does however give the two main disciplines some venom. This will most definitely not be a walk in the park as most teams are starting to find their form. The home sides will also prove difficult to beat at home. Will AB edge his name in history or will our past haunt us, it remains to be seen.

Bringing home the trophy will make up for all the heartache that the South African cricket community has endured over the past few decades. We do hope that this pressure does not cripple the team but rather spur them on into raising their game to a new level.
