Q&A WITH TEMBA BAVUMA

2016-03-04 08:40

  1. When did you start playing cricket?

Started playing from as young as I can remember, playing in the streets of Langa with friends.

  1. How did it feel when you first made the protea team?

It was a great feeling, realizing I'll be living a moment I've dreamed and worked towards.

  1. Where would you like to see yourself in the next year?

In the next year I'll like to see myself featuring more consistently for the Proteas, hopefully breaking into the 2 other formats. I would also like to feature into other business interests away from cricket.

  1. What is your five year goal?

I haven't thought that far ahead yet but in terms of cricket I would hopefully be a major part of the Proteas having inspired many. From a business point have a stable running business and a healthy family.

  1. What is your ultimate dream or goal?

Ultimate dream: Playing 100 test games.

  1. Who is your best friend in the protea team?

I mainly get along with everyone but probably mostly Kagiso Rabada and Dane Piedt.

  1. What do you do to relax away from the cricket?

I enjoy being away from the game spending my time with family and friends, visiting back home in Cape Town and djying.

  1. What advice do you have for the youth?

I would advise the youth as I was advised as a youth: if you have a dream, chase it, understand that there will be challenges along the way but if your passion, fight for it is strong enough you will find a way to overcome those obstacles and be on your path to your dream. Understand also you will need to sacrifice to get there.

  1. Do you support the #AccessMustRise campaign, to allow more youth to go to university?

Definitely, education should be made more accessible to everyone, the empowering of our youth is key to the betterment of our country. Higher education shouldn't be seen as a privilege but is a right for all.
