Sibusiso Leope – Thank You

2014-10-12 21:47

This man has really inspired me…

Better known as DJ Sbu, he was born in May 1977 in Thembisa, today he is a successful businessman, record label owner, author, TV presenter and radio jock. He has worked on some of the most influential radio stations in the country such as YFM and Metro FM. I guess it isn’t much of a surprise that he was named by Forbes USA as 1 of 13 young African celebrities to watch in 2013. Forbes hardly gets it wrong, even though Sbu has done so well in the entertainment industry for many years; it is his work and efforts when it comes to uplifting our youth with his educational foundation that has really motivated me. We are all inspired by you Mr Leope. Even though he has an extremely busy schedule, he still finds the time and need to give three talks a week to disadvantaged schools around South Africa. He has given numerous bursaries and mentorship opportunities to learners.

I always believed that the only way our young people will ever develop their mind set is if we have role models that lead by example, the domino effect is something I feel so strongly about. The domino effect is the process that will lead to our country’s youth becoming extremely efficient. I strongly believe that Mr Leope is one of the best if not the best role model in South Africa. He has shaped youth culture and their thinking. Despite his tough upbringing in Tembisa, he has overcome obstacles on his journey to being great. He is currently hosting the Sound Revival show on Metro and appears on the most popular game show in the country, “Friends Like These.” He co-owns the record label TS Records with TK Nciza.

Mr Leope has taught us that failure is not final, obviously being someone who looks up to Sbu I did a bit of research to find out more about his amazing journey to success. Just when I thought I knew everything about him, I learnt that he failed matric, he explained in an interview that he was one of those kids who loved partying and he would drop his bag at home on Friday and pick it up again on Monday. We can all relate to this at some stage in our lives and we have all failed (learnt) because of it. We should never give up, Sbu went back and did his matric again and passed. He went to Pretoria technicon and failed, after which he transferred to Wits technicon and failed again.

Most people would give up at this stage and be content with a life that does not get the chance to smell success. No, Mr Leope would never be content knowing he wasted all that talent, his parents told him that they didn’t have enough funding to let him continue his studies so he secretly got a job, working as a salesman for two years in Johannesburg and then returned to technical college to get his diploma in electrical engineering.

Leadership 2020 has been such a huge success nationwide, I loved walking into a CNA and although books and newspapers moved and changed positions in the store on a weekly basis, Leadership 2020 had its spot. You know that spot where the top 10 books would be, Leadership 2020 held that #1 spot for months. As a future author publishing my book in autumn 2015 all I can say is that DJ Sbu has just raised the bar and I challenge every single one of you to try and raise it even higher. Today I can safely say that through leadership 2020 and SLEF thousands of students will pass matric that would have failed, thousands will get to pick and choose what they would like to study at university and thousands will graduate from the best Universities in Africa like the University of Cape Town and the University of the Witwatersrand. Today I can safely say that you have left a positive mark on this country forever. Thank you Mr Leope.

By the way my music app is stuck on Indlela Yam’, Congratulations Zahara and to you Sbu.

Keep Winning.
