Stand United Against Terrorists.

2014-12-02 08:08

I am deeply saddened by the news of the cold–blooded murder of Werner Groenewald and his two teenage children in Kabul, Afghanistan, at the hands of lawless criminals. (news24, December 02).

It is a heinous act that needs to be condemned in the strongest possible terms by all people of faith and by humanity at large.

My heartfelt and deepest condolences and sympathies go out to Hannelie, the deceased’s wife, and the extended family.

The indiscriminate and intentional murder of innocent human beings is totally unacceptable and cannot be sanctioned under any circumstances.

No cause, mission or motivation can justify violence or the killing of innocent people. Violence in any form carried out against innocent civilians cannot be acceptable.

Bloodshed - in whatever form and content, illegal occupation, invasion of sovereign countries, organised violence, drone strikes and other covert military actions are a curse of our times and must be condemned and reasonably and legally resisted. These criminal acts of terrorism are the most serious threats to peace and security and are unjustifiable.

Throughout centuries, Muslims, have carried out the Islamic command or duty of caring and sharing and good relations with all, irrespective of religion, race, colour, language or creed. This can be verified by documented history.

Terror and notorious groups like Boko Haram and ISIS and their members should reconsider their views and study Islam and its values through the Quran, traditions of the Prophet and sound scholarly dialogue.

Such extreme and radical behaviour gives Islamophobes the opportunity to label Islam as a violent and intolerant religion.

The violence and terrorist acts carried out by some misguided groups or individuals in different parts of the world are not the teachings of Islam, the Quran and the Prophets traditions.

Indiscriminate and intentional murder, like terrorism, is a demon and should be condemned by all people, political parties and organisations instead of selectively on communal or religious grounds. We need real change and not just condemnation and rhetoric. Only with change will we become free of bloodshed and other acts of terrorism.
