T.B Joshua - a false prophet?

2014-11-18 21:42

Lately it has become very difficult to discern the difference between a true prophet and a false prophet.  This is one of the reasons why I believe we lost so many South Africans in Lagos Nigeria. As we mourn these fellow South Africans we must open our eyes to the deceptions of Temitope Balogun Joshua (prophet T.B Joshua) for we could prevent any future occurrence of this nature.

For 15 years I, like many others, was an avid supporter of T.B Joshua, believing he was a true prophet. Growing up in Northern Nigeria, the stories of miracles, healing and wonders we heard about The Synagogue Church of All Nations was astonishing. At one time my brother who'd been diagnosed with tuberculosis visited T.B Joshua for prayer, even though he wasn’t get healed, I kept believing that T.B Joshua was a true prophet.

After moving to study in Cape Town in 2001 and later making Johannesburg my home, I started a magazine called Parable Magazine in 2006. In May 2010 I wrote and published an article in Parable Magazine on Prophet T.B Joshua titled “T.B Joshua’s deception.” (Follow this link to read the article  - https://tbjoshuawatch.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/deception-agomoh-article.pdf)  This was after an intense investigation, interviews with his once revered deputy prophet Godwin Paul Agomoh (who served with T.B Joshua for 11 years), major church leaders in Nigeria, victims and other multiple sources. I collected enough evidence, which I still have today. In my investigation and research, I found enough evidence to state that T.B Joshua is a FALSE PROPHET. I decided to call his P.A to present the allegations and seek for answers and interview with the so called “Man of God”. It never happened, all we got was DVDs, magazine articles and books praising the work of T.B Joshua through one of his Johannesburg based aides whom I had several meetings with. It was not substantial enough for us, so we decided to publish the article as is, after a long wait and defeated efforts to engage him.

A few days later I got a call from Lagos, from an anonymous man, who asked me why I wrote the article on T.B Joshua. He never waited for my answer and instead left me with a death threat. Months later, T.B Joshua was shown on a Christian television holding a copy of my magazine and telling his congregation that Parable Magazine is evil and not of God. Meanwhile, in late 2010 I attended an intimate meeting where T.B Joshua’s church organised and I saw things that I seriously doubt can be called "miracles".  But I wonder why a lot of people don’t see it.

Fast forward to September 2014 just after T.B Joshua’s church building collapsed. I got a call from eNCA news for an interview (watch interview here - http://www.enca.com/media/video/pastor-urges-transparency-tb-joshua?playlist=108) to tell them what I know about T.B Joshua.

I stated my case and my reasons why I believe T.B Joshua is a false prophet. His attorneys called me after the interview. Later on I was also on a debate on another television programme (View this Video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LeLZjZkdx0).

I have done a significant number of radio and television interviews around the incident. I also wanted to inform people of what I believe to be T.B. Joshua’s dishonest practices and how he tarnished the image of Christianity and the Church. This based on years of research and on some of the public allegations made by T.B Joshua’s former confidante and deputy prophet for 11 years, Godwin Paul Agomoh.

Since I decided to go public on my convictions and findings, I have received threats and abuses from South Africans, my fellow Nigerians and various parts of the world. But that is fine, as I stay true to my convictions, especially when they are validated by truth and fact. My focus continues to being an advocate of Christ to the masses, in the best possible way.

It is unfortunate that the modern church has become an embodiment of ambiguity, characterized by the worshipping of man-heroes and heroines rather than God. It would be hypocritical of me to deny the existence of the prophetic voice and ministry in the Christian faith. However, in contrast to biblical inscription, 21st Century prophecy has become a movement and revolution, without foundational and substantiate ground, often used to isolate and divide the Church, leaving it to individual discretion to decide its authenticity. This is one of the reasons why I believe we lost so many South Africans in Lagos Nigeria, just one example of many incidents which have left both converted and unconverted asking – is there credibility in today’s prophetic ministry?

Possibly one of the greatest paradoxes of our time is in the dominant discussion and controversy in religious, social and even political corridors, continuously questioning the order, the truth and falsehood of prophecy.

Following the collapse of the guesthouse of The Synagogue of All Nations, and all facts surrounding the tragedy, even a simpleton would be tempted to ask: is T.B. Joshua a real prophet? If I were to answer that question I’d refer to many years of research, and journalistic intelligence on the rise of false prophets, in which TB Joshua has been a popular subject. These are the finding of my research:

He claimed that he got born-again (became a Christian) in his mothers womb, even before he was born. A huge contradiction to bible.

He claimed that he was in his mother’s belly for 15months before he was born.

He has no church record before going into ministry.

He has no record of mentors or leaders who helped nurture him for ministry. Even Jesus had people like John the baptist.

He has no Christian history. It’s like Jesus without a genealogy.

He uses hypnotism on people. That’s what people see as miracles.

He is a charlatan, herbalist (sangoma) who decided to carry a bible and start a church.

He doesn’t have a THEOLOGY, forget about what you watch on television.

He manufactures and arranged miracles. Pay people to sit on a wheelchair or claim they have cancer, HIV etc

He hypnotises people to make them jump, confess and do things he want to make it look real. All these through his hand and leg movements

He has allegedly been having sex with girls in his choir.

He uses television to manipulate people with blatant editing

He was refused membership of the credible Christian Association of Nigeria and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria by Christian leaders in Nigeria because of his dubious, deceptive and unbiblical ways. No wonder not even 10% of the Christian community in Nigeria see him as a true prophet.

Now is the time to cease from embracing false prophets and their theatrics. We need to open our inner eye to the deception of many of these so called men of God. There’s voodoo, muti and juju in the church. I am not discarding the great and honest churches in our midst.

Imposters have infiltrated every sphere of the modern, cosmopolitan life, and tempting as it may be to think Religion would be immune, it is infact where they thrive the most. I am open and liberated to speak this way because this is fulfillment of true biblical prophecy about the End Times. Moreover, as a Journalist who is a Christian it is my duty to open a public microphone to with truth to counter this nameless monster of falsehood tarnishing the Church.

T.B Joshua has deceived a lot of South Africans. He doesn’t deserve to be called a prophet. You will know what I am talking about in the next few years when his deceit will be totally exposed.

But to accommodate the expression of freedom I say. Judge for yourself.

May the soul of those who died in Lagos, Nigeria rest in peace.
