The Kidnap of Real News - Let the Truth Be Known

2014-10-08 00:55

"The bottom line is that the mainstream media thinks you are incredibly stupid and will buy anything they say, no matter how illogical or irrational it might be. What the alternative media has now proven is that the mainstream media is largely irrelevant. It matters nothing what they print or broadcast. The people who are informed know it is all lies" -Mike Adams, the originator and editor of The Media is now sounding to be Boko Haramite in their reporting really. Where does  national TV and some newspapers get "their facts" that the new Governor of the Reserve Bank Lesetja Kganyago comes from Alexandra Township in Johannesburg? I can literally take you by the hand now, drive with you 20 kilometers west of the city of Polokwane and show you the Moletjie village in the Limpopo Province where Governor Lesetja Kganyago hails from.

By stating that Governor Lesetja Kganyago hails from Alexandra what the media is doing is that they are robbing people with their role models back in that rural village called Moletjie in the Aganang local municipality.

Like Boko Haram what these media controllers are doing is literally snatching away the dreams of millions of people living in impoverished rural villages who could have looked at Governor Lesetja Kganyago and say, if Lesetja can make it coming from Moletjie I can also make it.

Governor Lesetja Kganyago is rightly a role model for millions of people living in the rural villages of this country, a role model for them to take on his character, his strengths and determination. With role models like Governor Lesetja Kganyago they develop confidence and firm belief to achieve success.

Simple soft poor reporting as this often has consequences. With an army of staffers mainstream media is expected to do a better job. But it seems that is farfetched. With the emergence and power of the internet most of the dominant news organization in South Africa are now increasingly becoming a pathetic shadow of failed news organizations and are folding up like wet paper bags. The Internet has dealt a terrible blow on them. They are failing to adapt to the scale of changing realities. They just wanted the world to stand still. But the world cannot stand still, it never does!

It is just like Chris Hedges, author, independent blogger and former Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist for The New York Times once said that:  "It is been a gradual descent, a kind of deterioration over my own lifetime as a journalist. I have watched, especially on the airwaves, the deterioration of news. I would argue that at this point that these news networks don’t even do news".

Nowadays real news is being shaped, investigated and reported by the alternative media and independent bloggers. Alternative media have the hearts and minds and passion for truth and justice that drives their reporting to authenticity. I would rather watch an honest poorly dressed person reporting the news bare feet on the streets than from a person with so called million-dollar trained smile and a carefully selected suit reporting from a glitterati studio reading scripted lies on a teleprompter.

Why cannot these people even take simple cues? If Governor Lesetja Kganyago was raised in Alexandra Township he will not speak fluent Sepedi! People who are raised in Alexandra Township speak a mixture of Sepedi and Tswana, the way Paul Mashatile speaks. One may say well this was a misstep, a mistake or pure ignorance, but remember the lie of omission is still a lie.

I am really scratching my head. Fortunately Thobela FM went to Moletjie Village and conducted interviews with Governor Lesetja Kganyago’s family and the people he grew up with. But still that does not remedy the problem as Thobela FM broadcast in Sepedi. What about the rest of the country being lied to?
