Zareef Minty: The Law of Gratitude

In the last week I have met thee most amazing people, people I inspire to be like someday. I spent some quality time with them and the one thing that I picked up that resonates through all of them is this sense of gratitude. They are thankful for everything and anything that comes their way, they would thank God for bringing an admirer that would want to take a picture with them not because of arrogance but because they know that they influenced someone’s life in a positive way and they would thank God for someone that smiled at them. It really humbled me greatly, to think that these people could easily buy 2-3 new sports cars almost every single day but they would thank God for giving them legs and allowing them to walk. We take so much for granted.

The most successful people are the people who are grateful for what they currently have. While appreciating what they have at present, just like how “The Secret” preaches, the world creates opportunities for them to get more and become more. It is as simple as that. Be grateful and watch more come to you. The law of attraction and the law of gratitude use the same airwaves, we are what we attract.

If we want exceptional marks or if we want to meet a certain type of person, then it only makes sense that we think positively about our academics and that we become the type of person we would like to meet. The same goes for being grateful and the Law of Gratitude.

When you do anything in life, you put forth the gratitude to make it work. If you set goals for yourself, you must show gratitude for having accomplished the goals you put down. When you do write your goals down, think of them as having been already achieved and be grateful for them being achieved. Your gratitude will be so powerful, so energized, that people around you can’t help but notice that about you.

I read a quote yesterday while scrolling through Instagram that really got to me, “Someone out there is praying for all the things you take for granted.” How true is this? We complain so much as human beings, we ask for more and want to buy more almost every day but we never sit down and think of the millions of people who would be content with what we have at present.

I am trying this new thing where every night I would tweet a thing I am thankful for, in the hope that it would create a domino effect and many young people in South Africa and around the world will tweet about what they are grateful for.

Creating a global community that spends 5 minutes every night in gratitude can really change the way the world works.

This piece is dedicated to my high school English teacher Mr Van Strijp who first introduced me to the Law of Gratitude way back then.

Thank you.
