The Oscar Pistorius circus is like manna from heaven for the ANC led government

How so? Let me explain but first permit me to take you on an excursion.

When someone or anyone inadvertently or otherwise ( and these have been not in frequent) uses racial epithets indigenous Africans play the race card and raise a howling bout of protests but when a rabidly nationalist forum like the Mazibuye African Forum engages in an "anti-Indian" campaign not even a whimper from the powers that be can be heard. No concerted action from government to activate the 'never, never and never again" declaratur of Nelson Mandela. Why? Is there a trigger element that activates the racism card? Recent paroxysms of xenophobic attacks on Pakistani, Bangladeshis, Somalis and othr fragile minorities indicate that there are subterranean elements champing at the bits to unleash themselves on an unsuspecting people sufficiently distracted by the Pistorius/Dewani circus bags of tricks. Are there,I wonder, sinister forces at play that reminds those targeted that, for security, a vote for a particular party would save their bacon? Hypebole? Permit me to persuade you or stop reading on and go back to what else fancies your imagination like the Oscar Pistorius/Reeva Steenkamp murder trial currently distracting a nation.

There are people who use these like addicts use drugs or alcoholics go on a booze bing to forget. Are you one of them?

These are dangerous times and we need to take our eyes off television or our mind's eye from radio away from the Oscar Pistorius/Shrien Diwani circus and tackle these raw but serious issues that, beneath the surface, lie like coiled serpents that could strike unless vanquished entirely by a principled collective. How was it possible for Nazis to take control of Germany and perpetrate one of the most ghoulish episodes in our history? Read Daniel Jonah Goldhangen's excellent "Hitler's Willing executioners" and Philip Zimbardo's "The Lucifer Effect" and you'd grasp the point. How was it possible for Hutus to turn against Tutsis in Rwanda? I strongly recommend people to read Joseph Sebarenzi's "God Sleeps in Rwanda" and Gil Courtemanche's "A Sunday at the pool in Kigali" about the dangers of apathy and the illusion of security for all under the Constitution of South Africa.

Like Professor Jonathan Jansen I am wont to say " we need to act" and act affirmatively if we are to evolve into a substantially tolerant society of saamheid and move away from the mental apartheid that paralyses us all

Methinks that the Oscar Pistorius circus is like manna from heaven for the ruling ANC for the dominant narrative since Monday has been nothing but Oscar Pistorius and failure upon failure on the part of a government reeling from catastrophic broadsides has been shelved for the time being. What I have outlined above seems to have paralysed political parties who rather focus on seemingly contentious issues like , unemployment, poverty, crime and fraud without paying attention to history of what led to the Nazi's seizing power or the Bosnian as well as the Rwandan holocausts from seeing the light of day.
