The role of the Opposition party in a democratic country

2014-08-29 11:59

The National Ruling Party’s purpose is to deliver on its Mandate, to Govern the Country according to the Constitution and to ensure the “preservation and protection” of Human Rights. The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa has prioritized Human dignity and respect to all of the citizens.

It is therefore within us as individuals or a group/s to conduct ourselves with dignity and respect, such that you may receive likewise in return, diplomacy should be the norm. It has been noticeable in the Political arena since the dawn of our democracy in 1994, that power struggles within and outside our structures will soon be apparent throughout political sphere.

The EFF Leadership is accentuating the fact that they are practicing their “human rights”, it is the norm to publicly violate all rules just to make a point. A call for President Zuma to “pay back the money” was the reason for such behavior a democratic right to bring anarchy into Parliament. It seems that the head of Zuma is what every Opposition Party is gunning down for, with the DA looking for answers into the spy tapes that might inadvertently implicate the president in an unlawful act/s.

Whilst Political Parties are excited by the thrill of hunting the head of Zuma, the People of South Africa are trapped in abject poverty and the rate of Unemployment is rising; another crisis the classes have been disrupted due to issues relating to the Education System which can’t seem to resolve the shortage of teachers in Schools, and least but not last the Lonmin Mines on the other hand has left workers in a state of anxiety since there has been rumours circulating about job losses.

The people of Khayelistsha in the Western Cape are struggling due to lack of Service Delivery, and the High Rate of Unemployment is unacceptable; conditions that people have to endure Poor Infrastructure; Housing shortages; Criminal Acts; Drug and Alcohol Abuse; Teenage Pregnancy etc. The issues surrounding poor families in most of the Townships are the reason we need the Opposition Party’s to play a decisive role to ensure that Public Service Delivery is priority on the agenda of the Ruling Party and that each citizen enjoys the basic Human Right as it is stipulated in the Constitution of the “Democratic Republic of South Africa, or soon the seeds of apathy will slowly grow into anarchy.
