The Spirit of Asijiki!

After the expulsion of Julius Malema from the former liberation movement, a lot of people wrote him off from politics as the old fallacy goes “It is cold outside the ANC” assumes that there can be no mass mobilization outside of the ANC.

What most people fail to comprehend is that Julius Malema is the personification of Black poor people’s aspirations and frustrations.

It is common in the media to reduce the EFF to a personality cult around the person of our Commander-in-Chief, as the scripts were being written by oblivious social commentators and lazy journalists that the EFF would be a stillborn just like all other parties that have their roots in the Mass Democratic Movement.

What mainstream media fails to report on is the strides the EFF has made nationally in having elected leaderships in all regions of South Africa and active branches that are busy awakening millions of our People to the falsehood of Freedom being peddled by Tripartite Alliance charlatans. This can be attributed to the tendency within mainstream media to ridicule Black independent formations whether be it a church, sports club or a business establishment.

The formation of Economic Freedom Fighters was necessitated by the lack of political will by the old guard to bring about radical transformation that is badly needed in Azania to address the triple challenges of inequality, poverty and unemployment. Malema’s expulsion was a capitulation of the current crop of ANC leaders to the demands of White Monopoly Capital, by rejecting a radical policy shift as resolved in Gallagher Estate by young people for the neo-liberal National Development Plan.

The message was clear that there is no space for emancipatory and radical politics within the ANC. Add to these thousands of other disillusioned youth from other political formations like SNI, AZAPO, PAC, who had become despondent as these formations were being ravaged by factionalism and a lack of concrete programmes to address the challenges we are faced with today. This alliance of the disgruntled (justifiably so) youth led to the formation of this glorious movement. In July 2013 young and old people from villages and townships across the country convened in SOWETO under the theme: What is to be done? They understood the duty they owed to the People of Occupied Azania, a People subjected to colonialism of a special type that is a nation built on the blood, sweat and tears of millions of Afrikans that do not even enjoy the fruits of their labour and benefit from their beautiful land.

Our founding manifesto was the answer on what is to be done, as we acknowledged the role played by generations before us who gallantly fought against land dispossession, banished to foreign lands, murdered and fought for political freedom. Hence the organization chose to subscribe to Marxist-Leninist school of thought to address the issues of class exploitation and Fanonism to address the issues of colonialism and racial oppression.

The EFF recognized that for the total liberation of a conquered People there is a need for decolonization of their minds as Bantu Biko put it “the first step is to make the black man come to himself; to pump back life into his empty shell; to infuse him with pride and dignity, to remind him of his complicity in the crime of allowing himself to be misused and therefore letting evil reign supreme in the country of his birth”.

Our non-negotiable 7 cardinal pillars seek to address the issues that the former liberation movement has failed to deliver on and that is:

1. Expropriation ALL of South Africa’s land without compensation for equal redistribution in use.

2. Nationalisation of mines, banks, and other strategic sectors of the economy, without compensation.

3. Building state and government capacity, which will lead to the abolishment of tenders.

4. Free quality education, healthcare, houses, and sanitation.

5. Massive protected industrial development to create millions of sustainable jobs, including the introduction of minimum wages in order to close the wage gap between the rich and the poor, close the apartheid wage gap and promote rapid career paths for Africans in the workplace

6. Massive development of the African economy and advocating for a move from reconciliation to justice in the entire continent.

7. Open, accountable, corrupt-free government and society without fear of victimisation by state agencies.

Such radical policies were bound to shake the foundations of the CODESA compromise, hence the organisation attracted agent provocateurs whose main goal was to cause divisions and distract us from our generational mission, it was necessary for the movement to purge itself of counter-revolutionary forces within our ranks. Our political programme in parliament has awakened millions of people to its inadequacy when it comes to holding the executive to account which has also shown political jealousy from fringe organisations like the DA, FFplus in partnership with their garden boys the ANC in trying to suppress the voice of the voiceless by trying to introduce arbitrary rules in the People’s Parliament.

We have been welcomed in villages, townships, squatter camps, suburbs and all corners of Azania as our people long for economic freedom. As we celebrate our 2nd anniversary, let us close ranks and remain vigilant as detractors will never succeed in trying to divide this cause of our people. The Economic Freedom Fighters remains as the only vehicle that will take us to the total liberation of occupied Azania. #Mayibuye
