Top Five People on the Planet!

2013-01-08 12:25

If there is anything that sets Time Magazine apart from other weekly news magazines is its historic legacy of providing the world with the Person of the Year at at the end of every year.

And so at the end of 2012 Time Magazine has once again selected the top 5 Persons of the Year.

The number 1 Person of the Year is President Barack Obama. President Barack Obama is the keynote and point of reference to the new world. He is the face of the first phase of the 21st century and is admired comprehensively across the world, from Asia to America, and from Africa to Europe and the Middle East. Barack Obama captures his role and authority over the world as "having the capacity to set direction".

Time Magazine states that "After four years of the most challenging years in America's history, Barack Obama's chance to leave office as a great president who was able to face crises and build a new majority coalition remain within reach".

Barack Obama is following on the same achievement he made in 2008. Back then in 2008 he was named Person of the Year with United States Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg

The number 2 Person of the Year is the  15 year old towering teenager Malala Yousafzai from Pakistan. Malala Yousafzai has furiously and forthrightly fought the Taliban government to have all kids including girls to go to school and shape their own future. And for that he was effectively shot on the head! But she survived the government bullet. Malala is the symbol of the struggle for women's rights all over the world.

The number 3 Person of the Year is Apple CEO Tim Cook. After the death of Steve Jobs, Tim Cook continued to steer the Apple ship to even higher heights continuing the Apple revolution.  A year after he succeeded Steve Jobs as CEO, Apple is not only the most valuable company in the world but a bigger-than-ever player in design, technology, publishing, Hollywood and music.

The number 4 Person of the Year is Mohamed Morsi - the democratically elected President of Egypt. Mohamed Morsi remains a powerful figure in the Middle East. He has the tough and great task of shepherding the Middle East into an integrated global village.

The number 5 Person of the Year is the Italian particle physicist Fabiola Gianotti. Gianotti is in charge of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Switzerland, considered the world's biggest scientific experiment. The ATLAS center comprises of almost 3,000 physicists from 169 institutions, 37 countries and five continents, and is the biggest detector ever built at a particle collider.

Indeed in this age of corruption and fumbling presidents, President Barack Obama has managed to maintain his integrity and genuineness and for that indeed he is the greatest!
