Who do I vote for?

2014-02-06 21:36

Elections (e-day) are around the corner and there has been many turn of events that would leave even the most certain of voters a bit concerned.

To be honest with you, my top 4 political parties to really push home the advantage come e-day. Those parties are the ANC ( a.k.a. ZANC), DA (Captain Zille), EFF (Extremist), AGANG (Well, do I need to say anything here?). Let’s see who the average citizen can vote for here. One thing I can tell you is that this is from the point of view of a normal South African.

The EFF has took South Africa by storm when they burst onto the scene and there was concern from the ANC camp. Their fearless leader made some bold statements about how he will restore South Africa back to the top of Africa by keeping the wealth of South Africa in the country and monopolise the precious minerals that the country has. Good idea, you would think, right? Well, when you scrutinize the policies, they are almost identical with those ZANU-PF employed when they got into power in Zimbabwe. This is enough to make anyone feel a bit uneasy about the policy.

The Democratic Alliance is still seen as the biggest threat to the ANC and rightfully so. They still hold the biggest following after the ANC. The DA recently won an online election (means that those who were bored enough to take the test ended up voting for the DA) and this shows that they could still be a threat come e-day.

The DA recently welcomed AGANG into their stable but that move proved to be as stable as a house built on salt. After 5 days of the proposed move, Mamphele Ramphele decided to make a U-turn after disagreeing with Captain Zille on the particulars of the merger. I do not know about what you think, but I believe that Helen Zille should step down as the face of the DA and find someone who will have a different voice and approach. The people will most likely react to someone who appeals to their emotional side and make them feel secured. We all know that South Africans are obsessed with feeling secured.

AGANG has really dug their own grave by pulling that dramatic u-turn on the DA. This is not the only thing that questions their credibility. They recently had financial difficulties which affected their campaign. Already the country has major issues when it comes to the finances, how do we as a country look at AGANG as a solution to that area of the nation? The AGANG leader seems to be confused as to where she is headed as a party.

The ANC is still the party that has the biggest following as well as the party most likely to win the elections. The question on everybody’s lips is the two thirds majority vote. From the balance of things, 50% looks more likely in this case. Recent events involving the president have made waves across the country and the public has been asking whether or not the current leadership within the ANC as the right leadership to take the country forward.

The bad news, the public doesn’t like the idea of the current president taking a second term. The good news, nobody has said they are against the ANC as a party.

I am still not sure who to vote for in the upcoming elections but the one thing I am proud to say is that I am registered to vote and I will vote when the day comes. All South Africans should stand up and get registered to vote. It is our responsibility! Love South Africa!
