Why Feminists Hate Femininity

2015-01-23 17:48

Being a woman has never been an easy task. Migrating from the kitchen and gaining the autonomy to zip our own lady parts don't seem to have yet solidified our role and contribution to society - so are men truly the problem?

It seems that Masculinity, regardless of gender, has a larger amount of positive connotations whereas Femininity loses by far.

I, myself, when thinking of a feminine woman come up with the adjective “shallow”, while other common ones are “slut”, “bitchy”, as opposed to a masculine woman that is mostly seen as “determined”, “courageous”, “strong willed”, etc.

A good point can be raised. It could be that society has “chosen” masculinity as the dominant force, and therefore it looks down on anything feminine, whether male or female.

Let's look at the Feminist Movement. Increasingly influential in today's dialogues surrounding gender relations, modern feminists are known for popularizing causes such as #FreeTheNipple, by the way, considered a sign of determination and autonomy by many. The aim is to eradicate this clingy objectification of the female body. While, of course, as a female I agree, a disturbing methodology is what concerns me. Freeing the nipple and holding four rocks in her pocket, she criticizes the strict and unrealistic patterns of beauty as she patts her weave, and pledges to live for herself as she feeds off the number of 'likes' on her latest post-gym (semi-naked) picture. #NoFilter indeed.

So fellow women, if we sit and cross our legs (before the #SpreadYourLegs movement gets out), shall we speak honestly of  our role in oppressing one another?

Why have we come to package a woman's life so intricately, that if she does not succeed in the corporate world and chooses, instead, to give birth to a healthy family, we sanction her womanhood. In fact, we victimize her, we reduce her own independence, as if saying, women who choose to be housewives are oppressed by the men in their homes; and those who opt for the ties are the real independent females.

What concept is this of independence we've come to adapt in our interaction? Sure, a pair of trousers increases our mobility, but it doesn't mean that a skirt defines the boundaries of our limitations.

When have we decided that femininity is weakness, and everything that seems, or resembles masculinity is strength? An iron woman is not a cold woman. And a cold woman is surely not a strong woman.

We teach each other to ditch the kids and lock the doors of our womanhood, and step inside a "man's world", not to be a woman in it, but to take revenge.

Feminists, are you truly fighting for gender equality? For, it seems, to me, that this is but a cover up to some dubious matriarchy-advancement agenda.

In which case, there will never be gender equality, if the primary aim is to elevate women and downgrade men.

If this is a war, you're fighting the wrong people. Creating standards of female empowerment while devaluing alternatives of self-fulfilling womanhood is not the way to go. It's challenging enough proving our worth to men, we should not be telling you why it is dignified to have kids and not pursue a career.

Misunderstand me not, reader. The point of this article is not to bash feminism, nor its activities. Feminism has been a vital movement for females.

Today's feminists however, beg me to question their goals and foundations, that appear to be shaky and ambivalent. Such ambivalence is dangerous, and though hashtag-friendly, it does not do much for substantial gender equality, as it does for promoting misinformation concerning female-faced issues.

Freeing the nipple stands in no comparison to civil rights, and it never will.
