Why I don’t give a damn about being skinny

2014-10-07 06:42

The culture of being skinny with long lustrous legs has absolutely no significance to me anymore. I spent all my years as a teenager kneeling before a toilet seat getting rid of meals from the week before and gagging any remains of food in my stomach. Good days included an apple a day and two litres of water and anything that made me feel a kilogram lighter.

All that vomiting and starvation did nothing but destroy me. When my craze for model-looking legs and cardboard flat stomach came to an end, I realized nothing was more important than accepting myself and learning to embrace every curve and dimple on my buttock.

Today, I choose to obsess over the millions of starving children in Africa and the world. I have chosen to obsess about the effects of the declining rand in our economy and core issues that may build or cripple development in South Africa. As a 20 something year old woman I have decided to live a life free of hateful thoughts toward myself and to treat food as natures gift to my body.

The first step to recovering from an eating disorder is to put that bottle mixture of water and laxative down and seek help from people who care. The decision to live a better life is more important than looking like a toothpick it is more about living a life of deliverance and acceptance of who you really are.
