Winning at sport and doping

2016-07-25 06:48

Oh boy….!  Where does one start….?  Serena Williams winning her 22nd Grand Slam at 35 years old!?!?  The oldest professional woman in Tennis history that has accomplished this feat!  She has equaled the great Steffi Grafs’ record.  This has been the goal of Serena Williams from the onset. Guess what she will be focused on next … Breaking Steffis’ record of course!

I remember watching Steffi Graf in most of her matches as a youngster and she was, well… all woman!  Even as an 18 year old, Serena seemed rather manly.  Look at her today and you would think she was a man, never mind a 35 year old woman!

To this day, I cannot understand how the public can continue to support this non-sense!  The ATP is clearly protecting their assets to keep the game alive, as they did with Andre Agassi back in the day. (He was also cleared of drug infringements after testing positive for Crystal Meth.)  He has recently come out and admitted that he lied and was supposed to have been banned.

The United States of America is notorious for covering up positive tests on their athletes.  (I wonder who was behind the push to boycott Russia from the Rio Olympic Games this year, based on exactly the same fact.)  Another example is when Carl Lewis competed in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and set a new World record in the 100m after coming 2nd in the race.  Ben Johnson from Canada who actually won the race, tested positive for Stanazolol and was stripped of his medal.  Lewis admitted many years later that he tested positive three times himself during the Olympic trials in the US, but was allowed to compete nonetheless.  He also added that he was but one of hundreds of US athletes who were cleared to compete at the Olympics after testing positive in the States...  Interestingly the USA ranked 1st at the Seoul Olympics in tennis that year as well…

That being said, it is inconceivable that todays’ Elite sportsmen and -women can accomplish so much without chemical help.

Serena is one of those many sports personalities, who ducks and dives off-season dope testing.  In 2011 she was reported as locking herself in her Panic-Room at her Los Angeles mansion upon seeing a ‘strange and dangerous man’ entering her property.  To further escalate the situation she asked her assistant to call 911.  The police arrived shortly to arrest the man.  After identification was shown and the situation explained, the sanctioned drug testing official left with no urine sample.  Apparently Serena was ‘too traumatised’ by the event to give a sample.

This is of course utter non-sense!  All sports men and women (Especially professionals), should be available for testing at any time.  Another compelling fact is that not all tennis players are tested evenly.  A random test, is just what it says…RANDOM!  It is bizarre that most European and Asian tennis players are tested 3-4 times more than American tennis players both in- and out of season.  Are they trying to make the field smaller?  Eliminate the competition?

A good example may be Maria Sharapova, who has been handed a two year suspension after testing positive for Meldonium this year.  The International Tennis Federation (ITF) tested the popular Russian beauty at the 2016 Australian Open, after she lost to Serena Williams in the quarter final.  Very strange that they didn’t test Serena once again, even though she won the match!  Or was it conveniently ‘RANDOM’?

Although Meldonium is a newly banned substance, there is no reason for healthy athletes to be using it, besides gaining an unfair edge.  It is commonly prescribed in Russia for coronary heart disease and increases blood flow in the body.  From a sports perspective it is of course helpful in delivering more oxygen to the muscles due to the improved blood flow.

Have you ever noticed how so many Elite sports professionals always have an underlying health problem when caught out by the testing associations? Almost all of them have either asthma, a heart disease or was sabotaged by someone.  I thought you had to be healthy to be a professional athlete?  How convenient for them…

It is truly sad to see these Elite sports personalities having to lie about taking banned substances, only to see their competitors on the right side of the fence, get away with it.

The field of chemical doping has advanced tremendously since the 80’s with many drugs being used by the sports Elite today, not yet discovered by testing authorities.  For those who do not know how testing works…  It is an expensive exercise in which only certain drugs can be tested for at any one time.  Authorities generally test for the most common drugs known to be used at that time.  To bypass this problem, athletes use what is not common at the time or as indicated above, not yet discovered by testing authorities.

In the 1980’s there were less than 10 hormones used in sport, whereas today testing authorities face 1000’s of stimulants and hormones combined.

Sport has become too focused on money and advertising, which of course means athletes take greater risks in order to earn more money.  I am not insinuating that ALL sport-stars are on the BANNED (sic) wagon drug wise, but I am yet to be proven wrong.
