Women rock, but...

2017-03-28 12:22

I am a woman. I love being a woman! I love dressing up, doing things that women do. I love flowers. I love romance. I love hanging out with gal pals... And I love standing up for women’s rights...

Being a woman has its advantages. It’s nice to be adored by a man. It’s nice when someone opens a door for you. It’s nice to get flowers. It’s nice to be treated like a lady...

But there are also disadvantages... Like what? Oh, believe me there are many...

First of all, women get judged by their marital status. If you are married with kids, you are normal. If not, well...

Secondly women still struggle to get ahead career wise. How so? After all, we live in an enlightened age...Really? Just look at what happened in the States. Hillary had so much opposition. Yes, she was able to take part in the race. However, even in America there’s still a lot of people who are opposed to a woman being president. Did Hillary really have a chance?

Thirdly women are ten times more prone to become victims of abuse. The statistics are staggering. And it’s not just physical abuse. There’s also emotional abuse! Women are victims in every sense of the word, because a lot of times they lack the capacity to be assertive and stand up for themselves...

Oh, yes and then there is the all- important issue of RAPE!!! I recently did an article on date rape. You won’t believe how common it is. It happens every day...What’s even more shocking, is women’s reluctance to speak out! Women still believe they are to blame, when someone rapes them. How ridiculous!!!

Because of all of the above reasons, the fight for women’s rights is understandable... However, there are a few things about the women’s right movement that bothers me...

First of all, I don’t think it’s necessary to appear topless in public to make a statement. Secondly, I don’t think believing in a masculine God is belittling to me as a woman. Thirdly, as a Christian, I believe that abortion is wrong. Fullstop.

Yes I believe we should fight for women’s rights and I will keep on fighting for those rights. But there needs to be a balance. Women’s rights should be protected, but not at the expense of other people’s rights. When an unborn child gets aborted, we are infringing upon the unborn child’s rights. When we degrade the God that Christians worship, we are showing disrespect. When we appear topless in public, we are ignoring the rules of social convention.

There’s no two ways about it. Women are here to stay. Women should have a say. Women should have their day. Within limits. We need to respect the rules of society and we need to respect the rights of our fellow man. If we want respect, we must earn it. Standing up for women’s rights, also demands a certain degree of dignity. We must maintain our dignity. As I’ve said, women rock, but...
