Would you choose to stop breathing, if you had the choice?

I couldn’t help but wonder, as I went through the many lists of tragedies and happenings that have grabbed the world by the ‘collar’ lately. What the ‘world of choice’ is to us and what we, as mere human beings have control over. Great creations we are, yet we stand as fragile as the grass against the scorching summer sun. We run dry at any time; our springs of life squeezed thin by the fierce aridity of our shortcomings. We simply wither away, layer after layer; although slow and unnoticeable at first, its only when it’s almost too late to fix our mistakes that we realize the ‘ticking clock’ has almost hit o’clock.

It was only a few years ago that I started to see the world differently. This after I had opted to not only think outside the box, but I taking a long walk away from it, and look on from a mile away at the strides I had taken. As I retraced my steps towards ‘it’, It was only then that everything started to ‘make sense’ around me and the world.

Then one would wonder if there is anything that makes sense in this world. It’s all confusing. The simple question ‘Why am I alive’ would leave you knocking your head against a hard surface for years, as the answers are forever elusive. But should that deny you the chance to enjoy a bit of the few niceties that come with ‘living’, or being alive? Certainly not. Neither should it become your border line in your endeavors nor goals, right?

But, like I said, is it not true that it is usually when things have hit the fan that we scramble for solutions? It is when that tiny hole at bottom of the ship has expanded so large there seems to be no way to patch it up, and the only available option is to ‘jump ship’ and pray that the sea monsters spare our dear lives.

Now, just a quick look into a bit of politics in the world over. To crucify ‘these guys’ (I prefer to call them that; cadres, comrades or Honorableness doesn’t cut it) with words would do no justice to this article. Today, of all days, all I need is to try and understand. I want to understand where it all goes wrong, and why no one has done anything about it (now that it seems too late)?

Is it because the people on the ground do not think outside the box? Well, let’s give them the benefit of doubt and assume they do, who is pulling the strings and setting the agenda, then? If they are doing ‘that’ on their own, then who is to blame?

A chess game comes to mind every time my inquisitive spirit dives into the depths of the ‘unknown’. What if the pawn and knight had a choice in the game? What if the king and queen had to navigate around them to face the battle themselves from the very start? It’s only when the front line has been wiped-out, or massacred, that victory is sometimes realized in this game. But why should it be so?

Thoughts now lie scattered all over my brain. Like minute grains in a corn field, I will probably rest in my grave one day without ever collecting and gathering them into one solid structure. To say, ‘I believe in this because this has happened to me’, or ‘I have no choice but to believe what is in front of me without debating its validity and truthfulness.’ What if what we see as valid and fact is merely a creation of anothers' selfish obsession for his or her personal interest? What if what we believe is truth is no truth at all, but that the answers to these questions lie permanently embedded within us, the individuals?

It’s confusing, and at times somewhat traumatizing, but it’s only when you ask these difficult questions that you begin to see the ‘light of day’.

I stood and pictured, for a few minutes, the north-eastern part of the world, where people fall victim to what ‘many’ call the ‘true’ beliefs. Ever pictured yourself in one of these war-torn countries, where there is no particular side that you stand for? You’ll feel lost, desperate and probably with nothing but despair, at least. But for one, I know, in such a situation, you hardly know if you’ll ever have a second chance.

Many of the people in these regions never see it coming. One minute you are at home, sitting with the family, the next your living room has turned into huge crater; human flesh, blood and brains splattered all over the place. From a ‘spirit’ point of view, I would personally wish I could have said goodbye. I would wish I could have just told that one person I once hurt that I am sorry. I would wish I could have hugged my family and told them I love them so much. But above all, I would simply wish I could have had a second chance. A second chance just to make things right at the end, before my spirit parts ways with my flesh.

People in these regions never get that chance. Many die at a tender age; without knowing no sin, or committing a crime. Without even walking through the doors of a nursery school, to be taught the difference between right and wrong. How I wish they had a second chance.

Yet I return to my aforementioned notion. Is what we believe to be the truth really the truth at all, or it is just a result of one’s selfish obsession? Are we really free in this world, or our minds are controlled by someone somewhere pulling the strings?

So, if you had the choice, would you choose to stop breathing and be free from all the world’s misery, or you would soldier on, albeit as a pawn in the ‘service’ of the ‘king and queen’?

Food for thought.
