Zero blood –alcohol limit

2015-02-05 04:27

I welcome and support the proposal by the national Department of Transport to cut to ZERO the blood –alcohol limit.

It is time our government and society put the lives and health of future generations before profit and pleasure. The harmful consequences of alcohol consumption are costly and medically proven. Drinking alcohol is destructive and the effects of its consumption are similar to those of hard-core illegal drugs. To rehabilitate individuals who are addicted to alcohol is not so easy and very costly.

May I ask what benefit drinking alcohol has that justifies its continued consumption despite the solid evidence that alcohol plays a huge role in motor car accidents which many a time results in serious injury and deaths.

I feel that in an attempt to save lives, for the greater good and for preserving the family unit, the production and sale of alcohol must be completely banned. Social ills, health problems and a host of other troubles are made worse by alcohol use. Alcohol should be seen as a very deadly intoxicant with short and serious long-term illness and disease consequences.

The social acceptance and culture of alcohol use has to change in our country in order for us to create productive youth and reduce personal and government health costs.

Just as the use of tobacco, marijuana and cocaine has come to be frowned upon, so too the use of alcohol must be seen to be socially intolerable and unacceptable.
