Zuma, save yourself! Here's how

2016-12-11 12:52

Dear Jacob Zuma

You’ve been in jail before, you know what it’s like. That time it was for a great cause. You were on the side of the righteous then. Now in 2016 there are many that believe you must go to jail yet again. This time around it would be hard to argue that it’s for a righteous cause.

What is even worse is that your darling son Duduzane seems to be in the thick of things. The prospect of your pride and joy joining you in jail must be worrisome indeed. Sleepless nights, any?

Yes, it's not a pretty picture. What to do, what to do? Here are a few options:

Move it like Mugabe

Who is the king of the capture? Surely it’s your pal Robbie. Man, has that guy done it with style or what? Palaces, Swiss bank accounts, the works. Awesome. He may now be as senile as a mad old cow but he still has Zim firmly in his grip, or at least in the grip of his well paid henchmen. President of all South Africans until death do us part. No jail. Just fun, fun, fun till Jesus comes and takes your breath away. The chances seem slim though. The hyenas are circling. They sense weakness and they will soon strike for their turn to feed. Even if you could round up a few well paid henchmen that would kill for you (and you had one Jacob tsk.. tsk..) you would still need to get around the constitution. Man, you must hate that piece of paper with a passion. The chances of a two-thirds majority seem slim indeed. Nope, you left it too late. The Move it like Mugabe approach is dead in the water. Eish! Lawyer lawyer - Courts on Fire

Technicalities. Yessiree technicalities. The power hidden deep within this odd colonial word is truly astounding. The intention of all these procedures is to ensure the principle of “innocent until proven guilty.” But if one is a wily old fox like you, then one soon realises that it can also mean “corrupt until proven guilty”. So just carry on with your currybuddies whilst the lawyers play their games in court.

As a backup plan, one must of course ensure that the sheriff, prosecutor and judge are on the payroll somehow. Well, two out of three ain’t bad…

But there are worrying signals on the horizon. Guys like action Jackson making bad noises, the old Sizwe gun runners making bad noises, Pravin proving pious, Atul decamping to Dubai, your ever faithful buffalo billionaire seemingly no longer content with just money, the dung shoveling journalists scouring through your every midden… hhhmmmmm.

Then there are the really worrying bunch. The powers that be in the corridors of global commerce. Your intimate romance with the Gupta’s seems to have hurt their feelings. Hell hath no fury like a capitalist scorned... The Ruperts and the Rotschilds and the Wall street bankers have pockets deeper than all the pockets of our little country put together. They can really mess with a sheriff and prosecutor’s life. They might suddenly grow a conscience...

Then there are the really, really worrying bunch. The voters. The Madiba magic is wearing thin. The 100 years of proud history imbued in your green and gold voterproof leather jacket seems to be fading. If Julius and Mmusi ever get into power you and Dudu will be wearing orange for sure.

This courtroom drama is becoming one that ends badly for you. So what to do Jacob, what to do?

The time has come to get radical, to think outside the box.

The fTRC

Amnesty. Now there is a powerful word:

“a general pardon for offenses, especially political offenses, against a government, often granted before any trial or conviction. 2. Law. an act of forgiveness for past offenses, especially to a class of persons as a whole. 3. a forgetting or overlooking of any past offense.”

Remember the Truth and Reconciliation Commision Jacob? Many were shown mercy. What you need Jacob is the “financial Truth and Reconciliation Commision. The fTRC.

Many in the ANC have had a hand or two in the cookie jar. The problem with the cookie jar Jacob is that once you put your hand in, you can never get it out. Our country is stuck because you and your corrupt cabal are stuck to the cookie jar. We cannot move forward. You won’t allow us to because you and your cronies are too scared of going to jail.

So here’s the deal:

- everyone that confesses to any manner of financial crime committed over the past 22 years is given an unconditional pardon

- they can even keep the money

I guess you are wondering why the citizens of South Africa would agree to this deal? Because we don’t want to be stuck in your past Jacob. We want to move to our future. The challenges we face in moving to a bright future for all are much greater than your petty theft Jacob. You are holding us back from fighting our real enemy: our societal structure chaining millions to the yoke of poverty.

Let me introduce you to our true enemy.

Our true enemy is everything that is stopping us from migrating our country to a Joy Economy by 2030. The developed world is migrating to a Joy Economy Jacob. They will be pretty much there by 2030. This is what a Joy Economy looks like:

- all needed core infrastructure exists

- the production and distribution of basic goods and services has been automated

- a universal basic income for all enables the equitable sharing of remaining labour

- much of society's time is taken up with leisure and entertainment

Essentially, everyone in the developed world will become part of the human aristocracy  - where machines do most of the work, not the poor.

You are part of what is stopping us from migrating to a Joy Economy Jacob, but only a small part. We have much bigger problems than you.

You see, our societal structures are blocking us from building the millions upon millions of urban social homes we need, the roads, water reticulation, schools & clinics. Unfortunately, the only way to verify worth of core infrastructure in our current society is by attaching debt to the creation of the housing and related infrastructure. In our current system we can check only indirectly whether housing was a good idea - by trying to make sure that the person getting the housing deserves it, by them adding some other value to society, and in the process earning money to pay back the debt.

So when it comes to housing, it’s not about whether the housing is needed or not, but rather that we only create housing for the "worthy". No job, no home.

But the machines have come Jacob. They can do more for less each and every day. We will never provide jobs for the majority of our 9 million unemployed Jacob, and deep down you know it. Deep down we all know it.

So if there are no “worthy” recipients based on our current measurement system, then we have millions sitting idle rather than building the infrastructure we so desperately need, which is exactly where we are. Quite a pity really.

The clearest indication of the above occurring is the spread of urban slums across Africa and the lowering labour participation rate across the developed world. In the US we even have life expectancy for white men decreasing for the first time in decades. Low pay, unemployment, drugs, depression, suicide. White dudes Jacob, in the US of A.

The machines have come. Very few people in South Africa are actually starving. No one walks around naked. Most live in at least a shack. So it seems we can provide a minimum level of safety and sustenance to everyone whilst a vast number of us are not contributing to the creation and distribution of the food and goods - in SA about 35% do not contribute to production and distribution. Due to automation this phenomena will increase, not decrease.

Our battle plan

Forget the NDP Jacob. If we were still in the 1980’s it would have been an awesome plan. But it’s the year 2016 and we need plans that match the reality of our today and tomorrow.

We have created such a plan. A path for all of us in South Africa to migrate to a Joy Economy by 2030. We’re not sure that you would like the plan. It makes corruption rather difficult, quite impossible really. The plan requires of us courage, unity, honesty, integrity, compassion, transparency. You do not seem to like any of these things.

Want to know more? Then please join us at our next money4mzansi meetup on 14 December from 17h30 to 19h30 in Rivonia, Johannesburg.

So Jacob, please get out of our way. Establish the fTRC so the rest of us can get on with much more important things than you “applying your mind” to staying out of jail.
