300 sandwiches for a proposal

accreditation

According to time.com, Stephanie Smith was a little taken aback when she gave her boyfriend of the past two years, Eric Schulte, a sandwich in June last year and he replied, “Honey, you’re 300 sandwiches away from an engagement ring!”

Although the couple had been together for just a year at that point and Stephanie wasn’t exactly desperate for an engagement ring, she wasn’t one to back down from a challenge and she decided right there and then to get her hands dirty.

“I’ll show him and the rest of the world that I can make 300 sandwiches,” said Stephanie.

Stephanie has made 177 sandwiches since. She tries to make three sandwiches a week, each with a new filling, and then publishes pictures and recipes on her blog, 300sandwiches.com.

Critics have said the idea is sexist and Eric is a chauvinist, but Stephanie has hit back, saying he’s the real chef in their relationship and spends much more time than her in the kitchen. He also doesn’t hesitate to clean up their flat in Brooklyn, New York, or help her with preparation for the sandwiches.

“Once I reach sandwich number 300, I’ll have a host of meals that I could use for parties, dinner, picnics, breakfast and dessert,” she says on her blog.

“In the process we’ll get to know each other better – and hopefully my boyfriend will commit to his promise. But even if he doesn’t, the journey there will be tasty!”
