But the material that this bicycle is made from is not just any ordinary cardboard. Once the shape of the bicycle is cut the cardboard is treated with an organic glue to make it water and fireproof. Even the brakes and the spokes of the wheels are made from cardboard.
After various prototypes Gafni’s latest is ready for mass production and will be assembled at one plant at a cost of R100 each. The final product is likely to sell for R175.
The affordable price means commuters can buy a new bike as they need it and will give many who would not previously afford it, the opportunity to own a bicycle.
